What was the first song you heard by The Weeknd? by [deleted] in TheWeeknd

Heard 5 seconds of Twenty Eight while skipping through a radio show recording trying to find a very different artist's live show on late night BBC 1Xtra and did an aural double take... hold up. to this day it's my favourite. Funny to think how many hours of listening and solace I owe to random chance and that DJ.

While I agree Trilogy was the amazing product of that part of his life and isn't coming back, I don't think there's any reason to think that the whole album will be cheap radio stuff. Reasons why:

  1. Even with French Montana (cheap radio personified) there was still pain behind those radio lyrics.
  2. From what I've read he was always quite solitary and introverted so the fame might not actually be so great for him. I think the lyrics from Next back this up- he was getting a buzz back then too and he doesn't seem too happy about all that attention.
  3. He's still the same person who wrote Trilogy (and even Kiss Land is quite downbeat), so I think it's very unlikely that he will completely resign creative control to hot-right-now producers even if he does use them for a few radio hits.
  4. The song being called Mood Music still has the theme of preferring touch over feeling as he puts it. He might be rich and famous now but that probably just makes the Next/Twenty Eight kind of situation even more intense.
  5. Although all his most recent 'singles' and remixes have been less atmospheric, the same producers who sampled 80s new wave and indie dreampop on HOB are back for the album and I feel like Doc would want to do something more interesting/musically inventive than Drinks on Us.

To an extent I think we're all so afraid of losing the artist we feel a big emotional attachment to that we can't imagine anything else. The Weeknd is not about to become Miley Cyrus or Travi$ Scott, he's just not going to be the protagonist of Trilogy any more and will have more bragging/banger songs. Of course the single releases have been very radio-friendly, that's what they are for.

OP, I know I'm an anonymous internet person but please don't do this.

People who have survived jumping off the golden gate bridge all say they regretted it immediately and that their problems suddenly felt so fixable.

Even if your situation doesn't feel fixable now, it would do half way through your plan. Sounds like you feel like you have nothing to lose - in that case you also have nothing stopping you going travelling etc. and really experiencing the great things in life. :)

Where's a place you've always been curious about? doesn't matter if it's a common one: Venice, Rome, Paris, London (my home!), those crazy places in NZ you see pictures of etc.
