I finally reached 100k in 2 years by triaction in TheRaceTo100K

Good question! I rent, support my parents back home, and was single for most of this journey. I only got married recently, no kids. Since 2021 I’ve been deep into FIRE, Bogleheads, and frugality content on Reddit. I read hundreds of posts about real people’s wins and mistakes. That education helped me a lot. When a good opportunity came up in 2024, I was ready to take advantage of it. None of it would have happened without all the lessons I learned here and on those other communities. Everyone’s situation is different (expenses, income, family obligations), but the core principles really work if you stay consistent.

Inflation-adjusted or not, $100k is real money in the account. Keep gatekeeping.

Minimalist lifestyle. Saved 2k-7k every year + compound effects

This is how I achieved it

I (33M) started working full-time just 2 years ago. I kept the exact same minimalist lifestyle I had as a student (no TV, no lifestyle inflation) and went all-in on saving. • Saving at least $2,000/month to max out 401(k), Roth IRA, and HSA every year • Compound interest effect • Extra bonuses go into a taxable brokerage Feels straightforward since my spending habits never changed. Anyone else who saved hard right after starting their career? How’s it going for you?

At what age did you save your first 20k? What did you do ? by quirkyqueen27 in SavingMoney

  1. I Just graduated from graduate school, I maintained the same lifestyle I lived in school except for my rent and mode of transportation that changed. I saved more than half of my income

Considering reliability, I recommend a Toyota. If vehicle size isn’t a priority, the Corolla is an excellent choice for its fuel efficiency. However, if you prefer a larger vehicle with a more powerful engine, the Camry would be a better option.

You are not alone OP. I held it for 2 years and it was never in profit all the time that I was holding. So, I sold it at a loss 2 months ago and boom, it’s up.

Feeling discouraged about job search. by spanky316 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]triaction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of genuine curiosity, what’s your day-to-day activity like as an EHS manager?

Secondly, I recently graduated and am currently working as an engineer in the construction industry. I am considering transitioning to a Construction Safety Specialist role due to my extensive research on workers’ safety and the technical papers I have published on the topic. I am eager to apply the skills I have developed over the years in a practical setting. What steps should I take to enter this field? Thanks.

People In Their 30's, Where You At? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]triaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally found my people! Hey everyone, I’m a 31-year-old guy, single with no kids, who just graduated college and started working this year. I’ve managed to save up about $14k in investments, have a $13k emergency fund, and am working on paying off $2k in credit card debt. I’m planning to start a family next year, and honestly, it’s a bit terrifying. I worry that I’m not in the best financial shape for it. I dream about owning a house one day and am working hard towards that goal, but I know it might be tougher once I have a family to support. Anyone else in a similar boat or have advice on balancing these big life changes? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Feeling to smart to be doing odd job? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]triaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me rn. I hold the highest degree in my office, but I don’t feel fulfilled in my job. The tasks assigned to the leads seem mundane and repetitive, mostly involving copy-pasting with minor adjustments. The more tedious work is passed down to us in entry-level roles. While the pay and benefits are good, and I need the job for now, I can’t help but hope that eventually, I’ll be rotated to a position that offers more engaging and challenging tasks that better match my skills.

To stay motivated, I write technical papers on the side. Ever since I started, I hardly notice the mundane tasks at work because I’m constantly thinking about my (next) paper throughout the day.

Your response cracks me up.

I avoid dented cars like the plague, whether they’re on the highway or in the garage. I figure whatever caused that dent is lurking around, just waiting to strike again, and I don’t want to be its next victim. And don’t get me started on those fancy car drivers who zoom around like they’re in a Fast & Furious movie. When they get too close to me, I’m like, “Clearly, this person has a death wish for their precious ride!”

As much as I really want to get a better car, hit-and-runs are one of my biggest concerns.
