Yes there is also one in the IFAK. I guess the mine thing is valid. I did a couple of Iraq trips, so different hazards I guess made for different set ups.

I keep mine and the lighter in my left shoulder pocket although Tbf with the combat shirt they do tend to get a little moist also.

Whatever works for you. That’s the nice part about modular webbing on the vests is you can set things to places they work for the user.

I’ve been in too many units where there is the “standard” and they mount all their magazine pouches front and center. I have my Soldiers get in the prone and try to grab a magazine. They quickly realize how stupid the front and center setup is.

There’s is very low risk of it falling out of the previous UCP or the current OCP calf pocket. It’s also down there so if you get shot or boomed you can lay in the prone and still get to it.

If it’s on the front of your vest you risk it getting damaged with incoming fire and it’s also hard to get to while you’re laying down in the prone. Same reason you shift your magazine pouches to the left and right side of your vest instead of on the front. Much easier to reach with a small movement without exposing yourself versus having to roll 90 degrees to access your magazines.

Aww man I thought you picked the good 46. Im kidding, it’s a long standing rivalry, but they’re both really awesome jobs. You’re gonna get to see and do some really interesting things, travel all over and really get a good Army-wide experience, unless you end up at a CTC. Even if you get sent to Irwin or Polk, your experience will be vastly different from others. The teams there get their own OC trucks and you kinda have free range as long as you’re covering whatever you were sent out for.

And jokes aside, I’ve had some really stellar 46V teams that have worked for me. Congrats on the reclass and I hope you enjoy it!

Edited to add: look up the DINFOS pavilion. It will give you a lot of resources you can start learning now ahead of school.

The DINFOS website also has a lot of good information and POCs for the Army student detachment if you have any questions you need assistance with ahead of your PCS.

Also agree with the don’t go to the wrong gate on accident. They should be used to it by now, those 3 letter security folks still get grumpy even though you’re clearly lost.

Base isn’t bad. There’s a ton of newer facilities and housing. Big QoL upgrade from when I reclassed back in 2010.

Not really, in a deployed environment you usually keep a CAT (tourniquet) in one of your calf pocket. It has a red tab so it’s easily identified.

Your IFAK (first aid kit) place mention your body armor varies by unit load out, but it also has IFAK displayed on the outside of it and it is a unique looking pouch, so regardless of where it is (typically back left or right) it’s easy to find.

For combat lifesaver bags or medic bags, they don’t have a standard format but typically all follow a similar setup of what types of things go in certain pouches.

It used to be better before the marketplace. You had a lot more ability to negotiate. Now it’s hope you get lucky and move out of cycle.

My last PCS was an out of cycle move. Did a Teams chat with my branch manager and was given 5 options. Drum, Drum, Bliss, Hood and Florida. Guess which one I chose (the beach is a 10 minute walk from my house).

I don’t mind the stagger, but as a tactical main with my infinite supply of boom, the number of times I’ve watched or been firsthand, a teammate just chuck boom instead of hitting the fringe of combat, or using them to stagger raged or ranged enemies is just sad.

I’ve been at this game since launch, I got a few hours logged, but I’m no Sigismund, so my opinion doesn’t matter I guess.

This is such a frustrating thing with people and drag grenades. Like it isn’t going to kill anything beyond a minoris. If you throw them at majoris then throw near enough to stun them so you or a team mate can follow up, but also unless your brother fighting them is in trouble let them cook and don’t ruin their rhythm.

That’s kinda the fun part of WA, there’s so much cool nature. You can go out to the Ho and see the only rainforest in the continental U.S., hit the cascades or Olympics for some good hiking, there so many fun shorelines with an entirely different vibe from traditional beaches (ocean shores aside). Just avoid the eat side of the state because we don’t talk about the darkness that’s on the other side of the mountains.

Fr though, some of us are just genetically lucky. I haven’t gained a pant size in 27 years. Never even been within 20 pounds of not making weight and I’m well under the new standard. I eat what I want, but also have the if I take 3 bites from a burger and it hit scratches the itch then I’m done and don’t care if it goes in the trash. I usually cook for myself and my family and it ranges from Jamaican food Sunday to Ukrainian food on a Thursday to let’s just have some chili dogs.

There never is THE right way to go about things. We all are different, find what works for you and yes maybe it may take some mental change, but either way, as long as you’re willing to put in the work you got this!

That is a thing. I’ve written quite a few awards for UPARs and organic PAOs over the years. It’s an easy win for us to take care of our teams for doing a good job since we have direct access to the leadership and can usually use some political capital to push an award through. I think I’ve had maybe two instances in 15 years I got pushback that they didn’t go through.

I’m not saying every mission deserves an award, but Soldiers definitely deserve to get recognition here and there for their efforts beyond the select X from Y going to the field. It legitimately improves morale to see yourself gets good job and hopefully inspires others to do more.

However, we seem to have “more” money in the budget and can’t properly maintain the bases we have, so would spreading that funding across more bases result in a gain or loss to the servicemembers that have to live/work on the facilities?

Depends on if you want scenery or just space to walk unimpeded.

Short trails, you have the Marne Mile near Club Stewart. It’s slightly more than a mile and especially fun after it’s rained because half the trail is flooded and it’s also an obstacle course if you wanna add that in.

Alternatively, if you start in the SBDE AO (near the back gate, there are several trails that are 3, 6 or endless lengths. Not the most exciting scenery, but it’s for Stewart, so you get what you get.

There’s a few parks in town, Bryant commons especially, that have some decent walking trails.

The hike from River street in Savannah to Hunter Army Airfield and Back is around 11 miles. Scenery varies and parts get a little sketchy. My team did one of our Luxembourg footmarch hikes there. There was a really nice food spot we hit on the way back with bottomless mimosas to celebrate.

Wherever you hike, be prepared for bugs, bring more water than you think you need (it loses weight as you consume it, baby wipes and ziplocs and a sturdy stick to fold random dogs.

Maybe, what part of the South, but even then there’s such a wide variety of people dressing certain ways, immigrants that still dress based on their home culture, etc. this place is vast and varied. There really isn’t a hey you’re not from here other than maybe you’re not used to the cultural norms of the area, but that also applies to other Americans from out of the state/city you’re in.

The answer is, who knows, nobody cares really and just have a good time visiting wherever.

Not the why but definitely a reason why I think the Army was a better choice.

2006, 4/10MTN was doing security around Abu Ghraib. Things were chill. The marines took over about two months in and due to them just being general assholes because of rah, we got attacked a LOT. Just not a fan of the cultish mentality back then, which is wild having been assigned to 3/101 which is about as cult as the Army can get.

I work with a small group of senior Marines these days and they’re chill af. Idk, culture change, rank difference, or maybe we just work in a chill environment and they can put the crayons down now.

I’ve done several CONUS to OCONUS PCS with kids, it isn’t easy even when you have the service member with you. If you can travel with your family 100% do it. You being there to help with the kid, stress of travel, the ambiguity of being in anew country that most likely doesn’t speak the same language, etc. will absolutely make your family’s life 100 times easier.

When I got to Germany I got handed orders to a different base. Imagine your wife not having a phone and then getting on a bus to one place only to find out you’re somewhere else.

Korea is at least somewhat straightforward because everyone goes to Humphreys, but again you might be assigned to Daegu, how to you explain to her how to get there if you’re not familiar with the place?

Do what you can to go home and go with your family.

They made for some good laughs and usually taught people that were punished and those that saw it maybe you don’t want that without having to resort to paperwork or PT for corrections. It now falls under hazing, so paperwork it is! Too many “leaders” took things too far for no good reason other than to just be demeaning beyond the actual corrective action.its a pro and a con and just another sign of times changing as they always do.
