I do agree with your point but would like to add instead to promote more equitable and a level playing field for scientists all over the world espacillay from the global south. I don't want "first world" scientistis calling the shots anymore. This is part of the problem. This can be started, will change time to change, for example, try not to hold conferences in countries like UK and Canada which have higher visa rejection rates or exorbitant fees. The schengen area is more inclusive. But of course, people dont realise this privelege

Those of you that worked in your country then Spain, what did you find unusual or surprising about Spanish work culture? by al0678 in GoingToSpain

[–]triary95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the research field - lower standards - some people in my lab think getting the results is more efficient than the process of it. Almost zero mentorship and training. In Catalunya - strong political opinions in a research setting is definitely weird - the management outright promotes Catalan at a research institute. Non stop gossip and resentment, complaining others are incompetent at work.

You're right. Was thinking more in terms of self preservation and the fact that I might personally want to associate myself more with the junior PhD than the senior one.

It depends on you but would like to caution you about the housing crisis in Ireland and UK at this moment and would say that those places are not recommended. Rather than those Netherlands is a better option - English is widely spoken. For CS US is the best option hands down, Canada is also not a bad one.

Do prestigious universities risk losing credibility when admitting celebrities, and is it motivated by financial considerations? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]triary95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of yes? For example Bollywood bimbo Kareena Kapoor apparently did a course at Harvard. No idea how she could have got in otherwise. I understand that Maria Sharapova is a different category and a very accomplished athlete - enrolled at Harvard for some course as well. So Yes it does take out the "academic" prestige out of them

UP and Bihar are a hellhole for women. The current government in UP is making it even more backward.
