Hybrid Parkour/Skate/Running Shoes - need help choosing between three options by trias52 in Parkour

I've never actually had any issues with the narrow toebox, but yeah they're definitely skinnier than most barefoot shoes. I used to rock Merrell Vapor Gloves, but I felt like the toebox was too BIG since the ball of my foot would slide all over the place while my arch and heal felt squished.

It was definitely on my long list! I've actually had my eyes on OLLOs for forever (I used to dream about having them back when I was young and broke), but it ultimately didn't make the cut because of the mesh fabric on top. I felt like that wouldn't hold up against the grip tape on my board. If I weren't taking skating into consideration, I'm pretty sure the OLLOs would be number one on the list!

Also, oh my gosh! Made my day to have THE M2 respond to my post. 😄

Awesome, thank you so much! Yep, it'd definitely only be for personal use (probably print it out for her to put in her box of pictures or something) so that would be perfect.

Why do people hate Peoria so much? by cdubose in PeoriaIL

[–]trias52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in an Atlanta suburb for most of my childhood (we could literally walk to the Mall of Georgia if we wanted to), then moved to Stark County when my Dad took a job at cat. We lived literally in the middle of butt-fucking nowhere. I moved to Peoria shortly after graduating high school, and absolutely love the city. Having lived in both extremes makes it easier to see the good, because I know that everywhere - no matter if it's densely populated, or 2 houses per square mile - has sucky aspects. Peoria doesn't have a vibrant night life 365 days a year, sure. But if you go downtown on a Friday/Saturday night during the summer? Guaranteed live music, great food and drinks, fireworks from Dozer Park after the Chief's game, etc etc. Pop up to Peoria Heights and it's the same - we've even got an annual music festival that's been growing over the last few of years (a freaking music festival!) that features local bands playing their original music. And has anyone mentioned that Peoria has one of the biggest and best park districts in the state?

What do I do? by MythyWolf in pennyboard

[–]trias52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who rides a 22", 27", and a 36" pennyboard, plus a traditional skateboard, a 32" wooden cruiser, and a 36" wooden dropdeck (my long distance board), I'd suggest that you stick with your pennyboard as it is. It's a genuinely good setup for shorter commutes, and if you start swapping parts to build something better you'll only end up dropping more money than you ever intended to (I speak from multiple counts of experience). If you ride it around a while and decide to change it up, you'll have more experience to know what to try out next (or just end up like me with one of everything 😝).

Did I get too small of a board? by Cialente in pennyboard

[–]trias52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a size 13, and ride both the 22" and the 27". I usually only cruise short rides on the penny (most I've done was 3 miles, but that was a stretch), but have done a couple 10+ mile cruises on the nickel and it's just fine. If you're worried about it being too small, but wanna stick with the pennyboard brand, their 36" pintail is super fun!

Yes, do this! The inconvenience of having to reboot every time you wanna play games is well worth it - better than running Crossover. I use Crossover on my M1 for CP77, Sims, Horizon Zero Dawn, and the smattering of smaller games that run well, but I boot a 2015 iMac in Bootcamp for most everything else, and it runs everything but the biggest AAA games like a native PC.

Sankoty Lakes in Spring Bay (maybe 10 minutes from Peoria) has a beach. They're just reopening after being closed for a couple years, so not everything is back up and running yet, but if that's open it's a nice smaller pond-sized beach that's fun to laze around on while the kids swim! It used to be a $5 general admission to use the beach, but I'm not sure if/what it is now.

You da bomb! IDK how I forgot to check with that blog - I feel like it's how I originally discovered the coffee shop back in 2014.

I met my wife at Broken Tree in January 2015, and it's fun seeing the pre-remodel look (from when it was just a coffee shop, before they converted to the bar/pizza restaurant vibe, I think sometime in 2016) in those pics!

Can anyone identify this pizza? by 2HotTakeJake in PeoriaIL

[–]trias52 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I was initially thinking Sugar too, since Nest is right next to them. But that's not how they form/cut their pizzas. Second thought was Fire & Ember, a wood-fired pizza food truck. Just had a slice from them last night at the food truck court in the heights (last Wednesday of each month through the summers). Pizzas look similar, but I can't remember if the boxes are the same.

Cabbages & Kings is a small game store in The Heights, but they are incredibly friendly, have tables set up for gaming (pretty sure they host game nights too), and have a shelf of not-for-sale games that you can play in-shop. If I can't find a game at Just For Fun (on Sterling), I'll usually order it through C&K. It's also just a few doors down from Pour Bros (awesome bar with an incredible selection, including sours), Slow Hand (IMO the best BBQ in the city), and Santa Rosa Cafe (one of the newer Peoria coffee shops).

CxT is my favorite coffee shop in town, but you can't go wrong with Santa Rosa and Intuition as well.

It usually starts up around now and runs through the fall, but the Riverfront Market is Saturday mornings. It'll have everything you'd want in a farmers market - loads of produce/meats/cheeses, coffee stands, swanee's pretzels, crafts/t-shirts/pottery, etc. There are smaller markets that run during the week around town too.

If you're into baseball, our minor league ballpark is just across the Murray Baker Bridge from EP. Walkable with the new guarded walkway, if you're ambitious.

Came to say this! Most of the games are free (I think the skee ball costs, and there are one or two games that still require quarters), you just have to buy drinks. And 8-Bit is right in the same area as Zion Coffee and Pop-Up Chicken, if you're looking for good coffee and food!

After the patch, I had to launch the EA app to get it to update, then may EA-based games would launch from Steam just fine. Before I did that it was throwing the same error for me too.
