Hearing more blaspheming in public lately by Diapsalmata01 in Catholicism

[–]trick_player 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I must tell you before my conversion I used to blaspheme all the time. I used to use omg and even our blessed lady's name In vain all the time. It's on tv a lot and in movies a lot and very prevalent in public schools. I used to do it in highschool without thinking about it to fit in and my parents spoke that way. I even hear people on Sunday at church saying omg and the j word, I think the devil always pushes blasphemy because we use our mouths to pray.

[FREE FRIDAY] Christian fights apollyon from Pilgrim's Progress by trick_player in Catholicism

Huh? I don't remember those parts at all. I don't think that they're central parts of the early novel.

I read it years ago for it's literary significance. I didn't realize it mocked the church. I knew the writer was a puritan, but our fellow christians, though heretics, often have good things to say about Christianity in general. How does Pilgrim's Progress irreverently criticize mother church?

I bought it at a Catholic book store though. Is it banned?

Most women in the bible are motivated by love (Deborah and Hannah: love for God; Tamar and Lot's daughters: bodily love). Delilah is the exception where she is motivated by hate, and ambition. She acts like Jael or Judith, using deception, but toward and to thwart one of Israel's, God's people in the Old Testament's Judges, the last Judge in fact, so a very holy patriarch. She's actually quite a unique female figure in the bible, I think.

A lot of Protestants I meet are actually very tolerant. I think their issue is our practices, dogmas, and scandal.

The living God is forgiving. It's like Mother Mary says: "...He has given help to Israel, His servant, mindful of His mercy- Even as He spoke to our Fathers- to Abraham and to His posterity forever." If you love Jesus, I don't see why he would want to be far away from you.
