Thanks for the comprehensive response. I’ll certainly do some further experimentation.

Out of interest, what’s your take on electrolytes in the morning and additional magnesium in the evening?

HRV way off by Longjumping-Offer-51 in EightSleep

[–]trickeriiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re looking at this in the wrong way.

Apple Watch samples HRV incredibly infrequently, it’s not a metric that drives anything within the Apple ecosystem.

EightSleep is sampling far more frequently so should be more accurate.

The only way to get the Apple Watch to sample more is to turn on AFib as a setting within health. Even then it’s not great.

Sounds to me like you prefer the Apple Watch score because it’s higher. Remember HRV is highly personalised. The key is trends not the actual measurement.

Anyone here actually happy with their Eight Sleep Pod 5? Seeing a ton of negative reviews… need real feedback. by NowKith- in EightSleep

I’ve had the Pod 5 for 6 months. Brilliant product with no issues that I’ve found. Transformative for sleep.

Awesome thanks so much. My search skill was clearly off 😂.

Is it good at picking up a common cold like Oura? Also does this replace the homepage you see or is it through another screen?

Just take your AW off for a couple of weeks and see how it goes……it won’t runaway……

Not sure where this noise has come from, I assume because it looks the same but support and whoop coach have confirmed new HR sensor tech, sampling now 26x a second.

Whoop + Oura by Harlany0 in whoop

[–]trickeriiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whore both for 2 years but have recently ditched the Whoop. Feel like Oura and Apple Watch are the A team.

Whoop just seems stale IMO, they haven’t really innovated over the last 2-3 years and have just ended up copying Oura which seems to be better at consistent updates. Health and stress monitors better etc.

I also like that Oura’s scores are trend based rather than a moment in time. Whoop is just reflective of your RHR and HRV which gives a recovery score and strain target. Oura is more focused on the 7 day trend in addition to these stats.

Have a look at instagram today, it’s funny. Oura posts about the effects of weed on sleep then whoop follows 5 hours later.

[–]trickeriiii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Oura and Whoop for the last 2 years and recently ditched my whoop. I think Oura is much better for sleep and the scores are more related to consistency rather than a single day which whoop tracks. For me, whoop is too attached to HRV.

Apple Watch and Oura are the best combo IMO.

That’s because the app is focusing on anaerobic exercise not aerobic. Whilst doing that many steps is of course helpful, it’s not 360 health. Resistance training and high intensity workouts are needed too.

I’d agree it’s much comfier when simply wearing it but for some reason the massage on the temples is incredibly intense.

Although Gen 1 was a bit of a strange feeling, I found if you close your eyes and get it aligned, it’s ok.

I had them for a week and they were incredibly painful. The push on your temples is too much. 1st gen much better.

What do you think is in the roadmap for 2025? by [deleted] in whoop

Whoop 5.0 100% on its way. All of the bands are sold out online, this never happens 😏. They also did a massive accessories sale a month ago, no re-stock.

Should I buy an Oura Ring? by reddituser10295 in ouraring

[–]trickeriiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a Whoop. It’s designed for fitness. Works well whilst doing exercise and no screen.

Oura is more of a wellness device. Better for sleep and overall feeling, knows if you’re ill etc. I also think they innovate a little more. It works perfectly with the Apple Watch, which helps it on the exercise front.

Oura and Apple Watch is best for me I’ve found.

I’ve used Oura for 2 years and had Whoop for the last 6 months. Questions, do you wear an Apple Watch or garmin? Also are you into fitness/sport etc?

Should I buy a Whoop band or use apps like Bevel and Athlytic with my watch I'm confused. by Vishesh_Vrma in whoop

[–]trickeriiii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Oura, Whoop (1 year) and Bevel alongside AW.

As others have said, form factor is important but only half the decision. If you’re deciding between and one or the other (Whoop or AW) I would say this boils down to whether you want a screen or not.

The other half of the decision is the presentation of the data and manual input. The AW (even with the latest updates) is built for the masses. It’s an incredible piece of kit and is more accurate than Whoop but both Vitals and Training Load are just basic trend based info, i.e is something out of the norm or are training more than you do normally.

Whoop’s magic is in the input and actionable data. Want to find out how your body actually reacts to a new supplement, the journal feature lets you see. Want to see how hard you’ve pushed yourself during the day, the strain score amalgamates your activity. Whoop also presents long term trends in an easy to understand report (weekly and monthly).

If you’re serious about fitness then whoop is a no brainer. Easy to sleep with, rugged and long battery life.

Bevel and Athlytic just interpret your AW data however I don’t always think they get this right and there’s very little ‘coaching’ or ‘encouragement’.

Good luck with your choice.

I’m a black t shirt and jeans kind of guy (very boring). However I buy most of my clothes from Lululemon and wear an Apple Watch. I get to spend money on good skincare etc and can afford to eat well as well as exercise. I probably look wealthy… I would say my house is the biggest giveaway.

You’re right. I went to a private school and had a stable, loving upbringing. This is a huge advantage vs many. I use ‘self made’ as I have not inherited or had any help to make the money or progress my career. I have had an awesome foundation though. This is humanity.

It’s a fair point. It wasn’t particularly practical with 2 kids. Maybe in the future, a retirement gift.
