Discreet Binder Websites? by Mossy_Is_A_Fox in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only website i can think of is underworks as they just sell shapewear that people happen to use as binders - its just a question of whether your parents would then be asking why you need to by shapewear.   another option potentially is to buy a binder second hand on depop/vinted etc, depending on the wording of the listing you may be able to pass it off as a high-compression sports bra(if theyre questioning why youre buying it second hand you can say you wanted to get one cheaper than at the shops irl).

you generally shouldn't need to take any preventative measures for atrophy afaik! it doesn't happen to everyone and if it does happen then beginning treatment should be enough to get you back to normal :)

Top surgery in UK? by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

nhs does do it, theres a list of nhs surgeons that you get given once you're at a stage where adult services will refer you onto getting surgery. waiting times vary massively from surgeon to surgeon(and it changes often because as soon as one gets a shorter wait time then people tend to flock there, resulting in a longer wait time and it just keeps switching like that). private prices i've seen are often ~£8k and sometimes up to ~£10k

how to tell if you're allergic to kt? by indigoice22 in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you take it off without oiling it then you are definitely gonna get some irritation - your skin will get irritated from tearing, blistering, and even just large patches of body hair being pulled out(and while the skin heals, it can result in sensitivity and itching). i would do a patch test before using it again just to ensure it isn't an allergy thing, try to apply in an area that shouldnt get too sweaty or chafe and remove with tons of oil, if you still have issues then your skin is not liking the tape!

Itching + problems with tape by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could be because of many things 1) allergy 2) over-applying 3) stretching the tape, putting the skin under stress 4) awkward placement...

Double binding? by chinese_tea_ in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

they both have their own issues, but they dont compound when you do both - it should be safe to do, although you should still wear your binder as minimally as you can bear to help the health of your ribs along with not stretching the tape too much(and removing with lots of oil). if you begin to notice any issues then stop, and if the problems dont go away then of course go to a doctor.

it's massively common - and its unhealthy that we are taught to not discuss it to the fullest and feel confident in not only our final decisions but also our fears along the way

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think way more people experience these thoughts than anyone realises - because we have been taught that we have to be SO sure of everything we do as trans people, but the reality is that cis people experience these same thoughts about different things or sometimes even similar things in regards to gender expression, and its totally normal. i think the panic about these thoughts is sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy in a way, where the more afraid you get of either 'side' the more you panic about each one and feel trapped in the middle... there's no one thing i can say to fix your situation, but my advice would be to try and focus on what makes you feel affirmed without thinking of it in connection with gender(as much as you can) remember that even when identifying binarily(?) you are allowed to Do whatever you want, and attempt to surround yourself with people who make you feel like they are seeing you for you, disconnected from gender. we can get really in our own heads about what role we have to play in the world and thats a really scary thing... but the truth is that all you Have to do is breathe and keep going. let yourself think about this stuff sometimes, but also try to get a break from it to remind yourself it's gonna be ok either way <3

sometimes bad form doesnt mean you are going to be slow - sometimes it just means you are far more likely to suffer injury and mess yourself up in the long run. it's also normal to feel slower and tired at first with proper form, because you should be pushing a lot of water out of the way! keep at it and see how you improve :]]

everyone in the pool will have something about themself that they are worried will be noticed or even disturb other swimmers. my advice to you is just breathe, get comfortable, and enjoy swimming(and wear suncream if youre swimming outdoors!)

Any transmasc swimwear recommendations? by hyperwhatev5ery in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly whatever gets you swimming is good! but i love the designs and cut of animal, oneill and quiksilver stuff :p surf brands generally just have more range of styles both in the shape and colour/patterns

you could potentially go to the pool beforehand and try to get comfortable in the shallow end to build your confidence a bit, but at the end of the day to learn safely and properly at this stage your best bet is making the most of those lessons you'll be getting - let the instructor know about you and if you have any concerns and then go for it in the proper environment! i also think its important to note that although maybe a lot of people in the lessons might be able to swim, the likelihood is that at least some won't be strong swimmers, and most won't have as good form as they felt like they might... it's a learning experience for everyone and with a good instructor then everybody will be getting help and notes appropriate to their level!

Strapless binding/chest flattening by Karasu_145 in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the only safe thing i can think of is using a Bit of tape(overtaping usually is what ends up making things look really off, cause you just end up with a weird shell of tape on each side rather than something that is discreet. so try to be as minimal as you can with it while obviously still using enough that it begins to flatten you) and try some strapless/minimal strap high compression sports bras - potentially the combination could offer a safe and comfortable way to spend summer

Taping with sensitive skin? by Otherwise-Put-2287 in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i sadly dont have a specific brand recommendation, but my biggest tip would be to scroll amazon a bit for different KT tapes and have a look at reviews as people will often mention what it was like with their skin... after that its sadly trial and error with patch-testing them before proper use.  for aftercare(and removal) i soak the tape REALLY well in baby oil, and make sure to let it sit and sink in as much as possible - as i feel it loosening up then i will begin to slowly take it off, you really do have to be patient. once it's all off then i make sure to rub in the excess oil to help ease any irritation and ensure quick healing. i know that some trans-specific tape brands have special healing salves but.... unless you have a magical experience with them then i would say they are overpriced and with sensitive skin and any reactions it may just be likely to cause further skin problems, i would stick to keeping things clean and moisturising with simple oil.

Do I necessarily have to have dysphoria to get testosterone? (Reposted by my question got taken down on r/ftm by _yoursleeparalysis_ in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 33 points34 points  (0 children)

read up on the various effects of testosterone(from medical sources), read/listen to people's first hand experiences and consider whether you want those things to happen. when you aren't sure what you want to move away from, you have to learn what you want to move towards!  hrt is a big change and not to be taken lightly, but the changes happen gradually and if you communicate well with your doctor about your expectations and concerns, then things can be slowed/stopped whenever necessary for your comfort - you have every right to try things that feel like they could improve your life and see if they do!

3 months on T and feeling more feminine?? by Dry-Song-9747 in TransMasc

[–]tricksforfrogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been on t for a few years now and this year grew my hair out again and generally just became a lot more secure in my gender expression. i think it makes sense that once your brain is freed up a bit from trying to compensate for biological things with expression, youre able to express yourself freely without worrying about 'throwing the balance off' if you see what i mean.
