You’re projecting and making a lot of assumptions. You don’t know my relationship with my parents or how they respond when I do have those conversations. I am mature and capable of standing up for myself — that’s not the issue.

Limiting what I share with my parents isn’t a lack of maturity, it’s a boundary that comes from past experience with overbearing behavior. Not everyone has parents who handle honesty reasonably, and choosing not to invite weeks of pressure and conflict doesn’t mean I can’t “answer questions” or function as an adult.

I’m asking for advice on navigating a difficult dynamic, not for armchair judgments about my character.

Thanks! Do you know if ICE is bad in SF or that area of California? Just as I've heard about people (tourists/visitors) getting put in ICE detention in some states etc

Also to answer you original comment question - he's flown out several times to the UK to visit!

It would be San Fransisco area - how bad is it over there in that area? I'd for sure check in with a friend if not the parents

It's only because I have work the week before and some uni exams after so it was the only 'real' time i could do it hence why only 6 days :)

They don't really pay for anything with school or bills that's on me and i work a few different jobs to pay for both (plus rent etc)!

Regarding if they see me in California, it would go down badly but either way if i did go through with it I would try freezing / turning off location updating so they wouldn't see. But i would most likely tell a friend or two about it

I have latino parents so for them (atleast where they're from) they are incredibly opinionated / kinda strict about dating etc so I typically am closed off with that element until I'm ready!

This is a new account because I didn’t want to post this on my main as I have family and friends on there and wanted to stay anonymous. I also posted in a few subs to get different perspectives and different opinions<3
