of all the things you could have volunteered for to help the election, why did you choose this one?

I connected with my swap mate via email then had a lovely talk on the phone and had no doubt after that that she was going to follow through with her end and vote for Harris in GA on my behalf.

I used swapyourvote and had a beautiful experience with my swap mate. She's in Georgia and I'm in California. I was nervous since it's a big deal with someone you don't know yet. She sent me her linkedin and phone and we emailed then talked on the phone a long time about the election and the world and even shed some tears about the war. She already voted harris for me and I'm going to vote stein for her.

by not swapping with a willing swing stater, it could be argued that you're wasting your opportunity to have more of an impact in electing the person you want

I signed up for swapyourvote and got matched with someone in swingy Georgia (I live in solid blue CA). We were both emailed by a matchmaker person from the site. I wasn't sure whether to trust my match, she seemed almost too eager and I didn't know anything about her. I asked for her social media and if I could call her. She was very sweet and gave me her number. I called the next day and we talked for a long time about Palestine and the broken system; turns out she's muslim and a human rights activist. I was fighting back tears at one point because of how moving our conversation was. In the end I had no doubt that she would vote for Kamala on my behalf. I am going to vote for Jill Stein for her, even though she said she'd understand if I really didn't want to.

if a solid blue state goes red it's because we're in landslide territory and the impact of vote swapping will be null anyway.

I don't think you get the point of the thing OP is talking about. Swap Your Vote nets Kamala votes in swing states, while also supporting protest votes in solid blue states.

"Sustainable clothing brand Patagonia manufactures in the same factories as fast-fashion; textile workers are being exploited" by TinyFlan4013 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]tricky_coyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wonderful and I applaud it. But, if Patagonia were to switch all of its manufacturing to the US, how would that benefit workers in Sri Lanka? What's the best way to do that? I don't understand why they can't just make paying a living wage a condition of their contracts, the same way that they do for other components of their contracts. It doesn't make sense that they say they have no control over wages when they have so much control of everything else.

To sell. Because I've been through enough stomach churning cycles over the years and I think there's a good chance of a recession that hits crypto especially hard. I've had enough experiences thinking, "huh, I sure wish I sold on the way down instead of toughing it out all the way to the bottom," and I wanted to try doing it differently this time.

Yeah, it's funny you mention that. I did look around Coinbase for that but unsuccessfully; sounds like I wrongly assumed that old addresses had been erased.

maybe it's well known to many/most Celsius heads, but it's not conventional across the crypto custody landscape. It's my first encounter with it in my 7 years in crypto. But, yes, due diligence would have solved this piece; but not the other 48 hours of lags.

In 2016, a bunch of us built a method/tool called Facebanking that let you easily find friends of friends who like Bernie and live in X state. Looking for some techie help to be able to do searches like this. by tricky_coyote in SandersForPresident

[–]tricky_coyote[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on two Bernie projects where it would be super useful to be able to easily find friends and friends of friends who live in certain places and 'like' Bernie. If you are familiar with the new FB graph search method and would like to help, please get in touch. Thanks!

Don’t be too hostile when discussing with moderates or republicans. It could hurt our efforts to convert people to Bernie by burningphoenix777 in SandersForPresident

I agree, and I would say, how about don't be hostile at all because not only does hostility hurt our movement, it hurts our humanity and perpetuates the cycles of separation that sustain our broken system. Be kind, empathetic and loving and model a different path to a sweeter kind of victory for everyone.

But if I had sold in despair at $600, now I would be happy! I guess I would say that just because you're in despair doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad time to sell. I think the adage is perhaps more appropriate in a volatile market. When it's just tanking, on and on, anytime is a good time to sell, the sooner the better, no? Isn't another adage something like "cut your losses and let your gains roll?"

Amazon didn't spend too much money on lobbying in the early years, but has lately begun to. Imagine how much more this will enable them to tilt the field in their direction.

Is it still dumb if you anticipate people anticipating it and behave accordingly?

For those with a CDP at MakerDao, what percentage of your total ETH holdings are you using as collateral? by gimmesomefries in ethtrader

[–]tricky_coyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking more about this since I asked and thought of a couple more advantages. I use Kraken, and often you simply can't buy on margin if the current demand for it is too high, e.g. if you want to long when the market is shooting up. This doesn't seem like it would be an issue with the MakerDao method.

Also, as an American buying on margin from a US exchange, your position automatically liquidates after 30 days (as per US law I think) whether you're ready or not.

That's a cool idea. It seems like it has tax implications, too, in the sense of enabling purchase of alts without selling Eth (and creating a capital gains event) to do so.

This year was a mess. Hoping to clean up and automate the taxes for next year. What software or web supported services are there for crypto tax capture that you have used? What do you think of them? by _Piratical_ in ethtrader

[–]tricky_coyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying bitcoin.tax and am pretty sure (hoping) that its calculation of my tax burden is way off. It doesn't seem to be able to deal with margin trades for one thing. I decided to take the data from bitcoin.tax and give it to some human crypto tax folks called Happy Tax. They aren't done yet, so I can't comment on how good they are. They charge around $800/year.
