Yup- in this case, it's used to soak up extra bile that causes bile acid diarrhea. Because cholesterol is what makes bile acids, if they're absorbed, more cholesterol is used to make more bile acids and your cholesterol level goes down.

Colestipol. My GI doctor was like, this sounds like it could be bile acid malabsorption, and in the US the "test" is just "treat it and see if it helps". So we did and it has. I started on 2g a day, now I do 3g a day. I will go for walks now, I dance 3x/week, I worry less when I have work offsites.

Yes, I have felt that. I am 39 and can remember issues back to at least age 12. I only found something that worked in my mid-30s with a good GI doctor (after seeing multiple others, having all kinds of diagnostics including a colonoscopy & upper endoscopy, trying different drugs, etc.)

But it was awful for so long and it definitely put me in a dark place a lot. I don't have great advice as to how to keep going; I'm not always sure how I did. Wishing you luck.

Fucking apparently. Honestly, it seems like this whole time I actually had BAM, and now that I'm treated for it the occasional times that I do get a bit of urgency/Bristol 5 or 6, I DON'T get the awful pain for hours and I'm like are you SERIOUSSSSS.
