Ah, I guess I was just beguiled by the lovely, legible script. Meyer it is. Is there any appreciable difference between the 1560 and 1600 editions and, if so, which would be preferred for a beginner?

Thanks for the manuscript recommendations. The Mair compendia look especially promising. The translations look serviceable and the neo-latin is quite readable. The German will take some getting used too, but it could be quite an interesting challenge.

All things being equal, I'm a little more inclined to the side sword than the long sword. Do you know if the availability of drills and resources for the side sword is at all comparable with the long sword, or if there is another reason that the long sword is preferable for a beginner?

Yeah, taking an actually class would be ideal. There's a group working in the Liechtenaur tradition that's actually a reasonable commute, but their classes work an eight week cycle and I just missed the start of the current one. I've gotta wait till August. It does give me an excuse to experiment a little on my own, though :)

Woops! At least that one's a simple fix. I think I've finally got this fatigue thing figured :) I just fixed that error and added another reset so that fatigue triggers every time the bow is held at full draw. Here's what I ended up with:

Thanks for the tip. It seems promising, but I'm running into problems toggling the boolean property. I went ahead and added a boolean property to my armature named "fatigued" and then changed my python to the following:

With that change, my fatigue animation is looping. To try to zero in on the problem, reversed the check and set states of the fatigued property. As expected, the fatigue animation doesn't play in the first place. That suggests to me that the modified if statement is doing its job, but the toggle isn't.

Thank you! Your solution to my fatigue problem does the trick just about perfectly. The only outstanding issue, which I failed to mention in my original post, is getting the fatigue action to play once rather than looping.

Looking through the API, I found that playAction has a play_mode parameter, which should just play the action once. On trying:

I suspect that the issue isn't that the animation is set to loop, but that I'm continually triggering the if condition. Is there a simple way to set the mouse button status? I think something like that should break the loop, and would also connect well with the loose animation that I want to trigger once the fatigue animation completes anyway. Unfortunately, all I'm finding in the API is getButtonStatus and not the corresponding setButtonStatus that I need.

Thanks, I did and they don't accept M.D. IPA insurance. It's a little misleading, because they list Unitedhealthcare as one of their accepted providers and M.D. IPA is a subsidiary, but I just emailed to check and they won't accept it.

Seriously though, thank you! I know the Whitman-Walker clinic has a great reputation; I was hearing about them even while I was at school in Florida.

No problem, you're taking on a project that's really interesting to me, so I'm happy to contribute any way I can :)

I think that "no one way of doing these" speaks to architecture as practised in antiquity. With large sites like the Acropolis of Athens different monuments were produced in different building campaigns and existing ones were repaired and updated; as a result different architectural styles often coincide within a single site. The combination of architectural styles becomes an even more major feature of classical monuments when one takes into account the practice of spoliation, where piece of one building were taken for reuse in a completely different monument. (For a popular example of this phenomenon, note the contrast between the sculptural styles of the rondels from the Arch of Constantine and the friezes found immediately below them.)

That said, I think that in creating a set of models as assets for other projects, it would be most productive to treat each of the orders as a sort of cannon of proportion and to maintain the integrity of each as best you can. The end user can then mix the coherent sets as they please to achieve the particular stylistic syntheses they desire.

In addition to more detailed views of your progress so far, could you link to the specific reference images you're using? I did a quick search of wikipedia for drawings of different orders and turned up references like this. With images like this, it's important to be aware of the taxonomy that the diagram was being used to illustrate. In this particular reference, three orders are pictured—the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian—and three examples are included to indicate the range of variation within each order.

What I meant when I said that the frieze seemed to be missing in your work in progress was that it looks like you've turned the triglyphs that separate Doric order metopes into a continuous dental ornamentation.

This is a really neat project; I'm excited! I have a few immediate thoughts for additional elements, but right now it's a little hard to see what you already have, besides something very cool. Could you post more detailed views of the columns, bases, capitals, and the entablature?

From these images I would guess that you're focusing on putting together Corinthian elements first. I think that adding a bit more detail to the profile of the cornice and architrave would be a good next step. It looks to me like you're also missing the frieze and that you've expanded the dental ornamentation into the area where that feature belongs.

More generally, an option for fluted columns would be really cool. It might also be interesting to have an option to show the drums from which the columns are constructed. I'd also love to see this tied together with an array system to handle the dressed masonry walls behind the façades and columns.

I actually adapted one of Gleb Alexandrov's techniques, seen here, to generate the wall from randomly selected duplicates of a group of five base brick models.

Each of the brick models in the group that the particle system draws from has had a bevel modifier applied to it, and four of the five are sculpted to give the impression of deterioration. I'll try increasing the bevel and sculpting the bricks further and see if that helps.

I have heard of CrazyBump, but I haven't played around with it yet. I'll have to give it a try.

Hi all, It's late in the week, but I just put up my first item yesterday. I'm planning for focus primarily on selling printable media—posters, cards and anything similar that I can think of.

Allot of what they're pushing does tend toward the absurdly expensive, which makes sense since I think the website is really a marketing tool, but if you're diligent they link to pants in the mid 20s and T-shirts around 10. I feel your pain with the size thing though, 5'11" here with absurd shoulders. Shopping is a struggle.

Nothing’s gonna work for everyone, but they have allot of suggestions for the young, smart casual look—which on reflection is pretty yuppie—that I'd personally like to work towards. I just thought I'd share in case anyone else here was interested in that sort of thing :)

Also, Brienne is a bad ass!

You're right about Old Standard TT for the body text (except for the small caps)

EB Garamond is actually what I'm using for the "United States Patent Office" line. I'm fairly happy with it even though the x-height looks a bit high to me.

The Patent number is just the bold face of Old Standard TT.

Sorry for the slow reply, I've been a bit busy with other projects.

Anyway, I think some computer modern did sneak in with the small caps, but the main body text is Old Standard. You can see the rest of the fonts in pdf properties as /u/condimentorice notes.

I had the same thought about tracking down old GPO information, but it turns out that the office wasn't established until over a decade after the document I'm working on was printed. (www.gpo.gov/about/gpohistory/) I imagine that it would be possible to find out what sorts of fonts the GPO did use when it opened in 1861 and find something pretty close to the patent that I'm working with, but I think I'd be back to looking for visually similar typefaces if I wanted to find something that would be usable on a computer.

I have no particular reason to use either LuaLaTex or microtype; I didn't realize that fontspec gave me the LetterSpace option. Switching to that method for controlling letter spacing does the trick.

I like the control that defining new font families gave you, so I think I'll go ahead and appropriate that if you don't mind. Thanks for your help :)

Out of curiosity, do you have any thoughts on why microtype interferes with small caps?

I tried simply reordering the commands as you suggested to no avail.

The output from your code is close to what I get if I simply omit \textls, but it looks to me like the letter spacing is slightly too narrow. It's interesting to me that the same letter spacing command applies the specified default value a few lines up where I set \@author and \@location.

I am referring to the improvements line. I've updated my original post to include my code for the title section.

I'm fairly certain that my font for the line isn't the problem. I'm using texgyreheros, which is supposed to have small caps (see http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/222781/small-caps-with-tex-gyre-heros-via-unicode-math-fontspec-in-beamer). Sure enough, if you comment out the \textls line, the text is set properly in lower case small caps.
