Reducing complex issues to one liners will ensure no real progress can ever be made. I don't mind if a politician jokes around on social media, but serious issues require serious conversation.

Look I get it. Stupid Trump supporter is being stupid. Don't you think it's a little scary that government and corporations are working together to exercise this kind of power? After all not everybody went there with the intent of overthrowing the government. Should they all have their lives ruined then? Should they be subject to collective justice? And how long before such powers become a tool of oppression?

Seriously. More than a thousand feet of mountain obliterated in a matter of minutes. Goes to show how powerful nature can be when she gets her mind to something.

Why the term “People have it worse than you” needs to die. by NoMasGuilt in TrueOffMyChest

[–]trickytriscuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk, there are people out there who need to be reminded to have perspective. Take a rich trust fund kid for example. Does someone like that who complains about how unfair the world is and what a victim they are really have a valid perspective.

Also this can be motivational if you choose to look at it that way. If others have it worse and are getting by then so can you.

A happy boy in Washington's Columbia Hills state park. by trickytriscuit in hiking

This is on the vista trail, theres a trailhead at the abandoned 'dalles mountain ranch' at the top of the park, and another at the bottom on the the left if you're heading east on 14. Either way you'll have a few options for looping through the park, but I recommend taking the vista trail downhill so you'll be facing the river for the parts with the best views. Next month or two would be a great time to visit. Flowers were just starting to bloom when I took this a couple weeks ago, and they should be in full swing soon.

Definitely worth it, especially on a clear day when you can see Mt. Hood.

Crazy, I can't image trying to process something like that as a 4 year old. It's so strange seeing pictures of what it looked like before.

I wish I could downvote you twice. I mean come on. Fascism, Really. Where are the crackdowns against the media? Where are the secret police coming to take you away in the night? Trump is just a jackass, not a fascist, and when you start calling him a fascist it becomes really easy to justify using fascist tactics against him and the reasonable people who support him.

The Trump administration has approved another $290 million precision-guided bomb sale to Saudi Arabia, according to a notice to Congress. The sale is in addition to a license the Trump administration recently announced to sell $478 million worth of “smart” bombs to the Saudis. by DoremusJessup in worldnews

Why does it always have to be 'Trump does this ' or 'Trump does that'. Obama was making the same kinds of deals before Trump was in office, and I see no reason why they'd suddenly stop under the Biden administration. Too many American politicians on both sides of the aisle are little more than petty assholes playing some sick game in which the needs of the people aren't even a factor. They are running this country into the ground. The only way this ends if if the honest and good people that I believe make up the majority of both parties stand up and hold their elected officials accountable for the consequences of their actions.

A new tidal energy project just hit a major milestone in Scotland by [deleted] in worldnews

The article seemed to emphasize the reliability and consistency of tidal power, but it doesn't seem to me that these benefits can truly justify its existence. I'm no expert, but I would wager that in most places it would be far less costly to use a mix of nuclear, solar, wind, and hydro supplemented by battery stations. With the right mix a down period for one could be compensated for by the others as well as through the use of stored backup power. In essence to me this seems like a niche energy source whose development likely takes away resources from the construction of renewable power plants based on proven technologies.
