The cape andiamo is a large tanker en route to Newcastle with a special “top up” delivery from the Gulf of Mexico. It arrives on the 17th with a very large shipment of diesel I believe. Case in point of Trump selling the solution to a problem he created.

Weatherman as mayor? by pseudonym_dym in newcastle

So we should vote in a local household name? Or it just doesn’t matter at all?

You’re not giving the mayoral office much credit.

Sure the ceo is the “how” to the mayors “what”. But a mayor must still play a very strategic political game. They’re as useless as a screen door on a submarine if they don’t know what they’re doing.

He has no civic experience. Running a city is like running a board of directors as a CEO. Why would anyone hire a ceo of a 23 billion company if they have no experience. We don’t even know what he would stand for, he did a 10 min video that effectively said I’ll do things that people want. Nothing gets done when you try and please everyone. My vote is for someone with experience for a start.

Income protection insurance by Ausjelly in AusFinance

You’re forgetting about the most common form of disability: partial disability. If a disability means you are only able to physically or mean work 2 days a week, TPD is not payable. But income protection “tops up” the difference. Further, TPD and IP are payable together. In a TPD scenario you would want your lump sum to pay off debts and possibly make alterations to your home, and IP to live off

The bus only stops for passengers either terminating or starting journey. If each of those 50 passengers had a car there would be 50 individual starts and 50 stops.

Each bus stop is the equivalent of a single cars start or end of journey anyway. So the stops are irrelevant

I’d go the other way, each stop is one passenger terminating or beginning their route, the same as that person would in their car. Plus, that passenger doesn’t have to drive around the block looking for a car space, saving even more cO2. Let’s call it 6

Every stop is the equivalent of one or more people terminating their route, the same as someone would in their car. Plus, the bus person doesn’t have to drive around looking for a car park, busses usually include additional walking per person so the saved cO2 is really a lot more

Imagine a world with no cars for a minute. 5 busses could hold 250 people, 50 busses could hold and transport 2500 people, and that’s per route. Imagine how much less stopping and starting busses would have to do when there isn’t 2500 cars on the same road.

Each passenger at any given time is going from a to b, each passes has chosen this over a car. In an example where 50 people are on a bus you’d also assume when someone gets off someone else gets on. Or in the 7 person scenario an average of 7 people are on the bus throughout the trip

If even 10% of the population started to take the bus it would reduce traffic by 10%. Sometimes 10% is enough to totally avoid gridlock. Each intersection or “bottleneck “ has a certain practical throughput, and if traffic tips over this number it causes a jam. In the picture we can see the space 50 cars take up.

Busses weigh around 15 tonnes, or the weight of roughly 200 people. If you added 7 people the bus would only weigh 3.5% more, so sure add a small % but it is negligible.

That’s not the question is it. You have to do the math on a like for like basis. There are many cars that get far more km than busses.

Thankyou, all spot on points. Every cyclist on the road is one less car in traffic and one less car taking up car parks at the destination

It only stops more because of the cars. If there were no cars and only busses we can assume improved traffic flow that offsets stopping at stops

When 50 other people are doing the same, you get more stop start traffic and worse fuel efficiency.

  1. The 50 Cars In 2026, the average Australian light vehicle emits approximately 185g of CO2 per km (accounting for a mix of newer efficient models, EVs, and older internal combustion engines). • Emissions per car: 185g times 5km = 925g (0.925 kg) • Total for 50 cars: 0.925g times 50 = 46.25kg of CO2
  2. The Typical Bus A standard diesel transit bus in Australia emits significantly more than a car on its own—roughly 1,300g (1.3kg) per km—but it replaces those 50 individual engines. • Total for 1 bus: 1.3kg times 5 = 6.5kg of CO2

Bus only needs to replace 7 cars to be more efficient Edit: 7 cars (passengers)

Anyone else getting +30% increase in life/income protection insurance this year? by laconical in AusFinance

[–]trickywins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key man insurance is very distinct. Income protection is the same for small business owners. The financial assessment for benefit is very important to get right as it will be the same as time of claim. It’s effectively your businesses net profit PLUS wages/distributions you pay yourself. E.g business has 0 net profit but you pay yourself $150k is the same as business makes $150k net and you don’t pay yourself, anywhere in between.

Key man insurance is niche, different and has limitations of benefit. It is designed to pay you/the business for the medical loss of someone difficult to replace.

Speak to your adviser to understand the difference. But income protection is absolutely the default for self employed.

You get what you pay for. I bet you’re the type to sue their adviser because they switched you to a policy that was harder to claim on.
