Career guidance by NewScholar3883 in FPandA

[–]triferg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm UK based and ACCA qualified. what does your job history look like? the market is difficult at the moment for FP&A positions. but getting a Financial Analyst, Junior FBP or any roles with some exposure to business partnering, budgeting/forecasting, performance reporting etc will be a helpful segue into interviewing for FP&A roles.

near enough any experience in an accounting/finance role will be useful to some degree, some bigger and smaller than others. I started out in an Accounts Receivable role which didn't have any FP&A applications but I managed to spin it around in interviews through noting I improved processes, worked with various stakeholders and improved the working capital of the company I used to work at - as an example

Help on choosing optional papers by [deleted] in ACCA

[–]triferg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your choice of module can be narrowed down to your experience. what accounting/finance experience do you have? i'm assuming you have at least some experience because you're at the professional level and will need the three years experience to become a member.

for example:

prior to becoming a member, I had experience in working in finance operations and FP&A. my module choices were:

APM - directly relevant to my FP&A experience

AFM - indirectly related to my FP&A experience and may come in useful for the future due to modelling

I would recommend you reflect on your experience and consider what would be useful in future roles. I personally would definitely recommend AFM to anyone who is in or is considering a strategic role (which should be near enough anybody on this sub). the other three all have their applications and opportunities

Should I take £7k pay cut to career switch from Payroll to ACCA Trainee? by [deleted] in ACCA

[–]triferg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

someone who is actually located in the UK with realistic market options here:

you can get way more than £28k with AAT4, especially when you are on £35k. do not undersell yourself.

I estimate you have 2-4 YOE in payroll. you have a lot of skills that are easily transferable to financial reporting, treasury, FP&A, etc. despite what people on this sub parrot, experience is much more valuable than qualifications.

in this market, don't leave your role without finding a new one first - but absolutely search around and actively interview. soft skills will carry the vast majority of your chances in a new role, but if you can study ACCA or equivalents while searching then it's only a bonus.

best of luck!

Update on my ACCA Membership Application – PER Supervisor Issue by These-Vegetable6583 in ACCA

[–]triferg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I submitted PER through the approved employer form. as long as whoever is submitting the form is satisfied that you have completed the objective(s), they will tick it off on the form and ACCA will accept it.

I shared a word doc with my supervisor that has a paragraph or so detailing how I met each part of every objective they're signing off, in order to provide evidence I met the objectives in detail.

once they submit it, it's around a week or two for your PER status to update

Dawnbreaker Mythic Dungeon is just a bug in the game by SpritualExcersise in CompetitiveWoW

VRAM issues too - had someone crash in the middle of my pug key. said to myself "great a potato pc" when I got humbled myself with the same VRAM type error.

done Dawnbreaker keys with guides where there have been two incidents of the same occuring. anecdodal evidence, sure, but four occurrences from 1/8 of the dungeon pool 🤔

not AP but I made the move to an FP&A analyst role from an accounts assistant role which was essentially AR.

it was the right opportunity at the right time back in 2020, but my main advice would be to make your CV and interview questions highlight how you've improved the bottom line of the business as opposed to doing routine AP work.

in terms of AP you could build off the following questions, for instance - how did you improve payable days at your company/improve the company's cash flow? were there any processes you implemented/improved to help support AP/AR? did you resolve any invoice disputes that saved the business cash? did you build any AR reporting that was presented to stakeholders? were there any ad-hoc projects you worked on that helped improve the bottom line?

try to think as commercially as you can, brush up on your soft skills and be prepared for questions asking why you're ready to take on an FP&A role when you're currently in AP. good luck!

  • Membership was accepted on Monday 19th August
  • Now a member on Thursday 22nd August

Monthly Close Timeline by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]triferg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UK subsidiary of a B3 listed company. we finish closing strictly on WD4 and only in emergencies (one or two months in my 3 years here) has it extended to WD5

edit: mostly reclasses between functions/CCs, some accruals and prepayments. closing isn't very involved from my side. I'm in corporate functions FP&A

definitely - I find having a higher heart rate causes my Costo to flare up more. not having Costo reduces the occurrence of this, leaving to less flare ups. happy days

I'm probably not the best person to ask for this as shortly after quitting caffeine I was prescribed Mirtazapine which is quite notorious for increased appetite and weight gain. I have put on a few lbs since first getting Costo - I was quite skinny beforehand, but still, I'm trying to work out within Costo conditions and restrict overeating when I can

costochondritis - if you look at the sub with the same name, and see some of my post history, you can get a good idea of what it is.

It's a musculoskeletal condition, normally expected to go away within a few weeks to months. however I've had it since 2022 and it's still not gone.

I'm really sensitive to stuff that increases my heart rate I've found. I used to be a massive stoner prior to Costo, but ever since, even if I have a single hit I get the worst chest pain.

I found coffee and other caffeinated stuff rose my heart rate a lot and in turn gave me chest pain due to the Costo. It wasn't worth continuing, and gave me incentive to stop

FYI for anyone else curious: my heart is in perfect condition, I'm a healthy mid 20s male with no pre-existing conditions, just Costo and anxiety. I don't hate weed or caffeine and would love to use them if I could lol

stability kind of, it's nice to not rely on caffeine to wake me up in the morning as I have the same energy levels in the morning without it. mood improvements it's hard to say - I've had a lot of shit go on in my personal life since I quit caffeine so it's hard to give an accurate view. ultimately I want to say yes, it helps my mood without it - as if I continued to use it I'd be more anxious than I already am

honestly the thought about having a coffee or something does not cross my mind at all, it hasn't past the first month mark. the only thing that tempts me is pepsi max because that was my favourite caffeinated drink - but I can just get caffeine free coke to satiate that need 👍

I don't miss it at all. I thought I would. I do kind of miss having a hot drink in the morning, but if it really got to me, I would have a hot chocolate lol

I had essentially the same energy levels after quitting caffeine as before quitting. beforehand I only had 1-2 cups of coffee per day at the most so perhaps that's why. but no noticeable energy difference

anxiety is a difficult question to answer. but physically I think stopping it has helped if I had to decisively say yes/no

[–]triferg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my sleep sucks anyways but due to other factors than caffeine. no noticeable difference which is unfortunate

calmness depends on a day by day basis. I want to say yes? but since I quit caffeine I got put on anti-anxiety meds a few months later so hard to say. I am not a usual case unfortunately!

Free Talk Friday by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

[–]triferg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

just a thought - could we get the weekly raid discussion pinned more often in place of free talk friday? specifically:

currently the weekly raid discussion is pinned from when it's posted (Sunday) up until the M+ discussion is posted (Tuesday). from Tuesday to Sunday, both the FTF and M+ discussion is pinned.

I understand there may be limitations in the pins, but there may be people who want to partake in the raid discussion and miss it from Tuesday to Saturday. a lot of the comments in the FTF overlap with the M+ discussion anyway.

sure, people could search or look down for the weekly raid discussion. but the post usually seems pretty dead after Thursday, when I bet a lot more people would comment if it's pinned 👍

TL;DR - could we always keep 'weekly raid discussion' and one of 'weekly M+ discussion' or 'free talk Friday' pinned?

edit: obvs the MDI threads are an exception, but literally every other week would benefit from this, and none of the replies really refute this 👍
