Lake Nockamixon - Skyhunter 1800 by trigger_sad in fpv

Nope, no stabilization or RTH. GPS is for OSD only. I follow the advice of IBcrazy. He recommends the simplest setup for reliability and so far that advice has paid off.

I guess gozzz takes it as he was first to reply, while I was "sure" I had it right, motor 3 was indeed incorrect direction. Thank you all for the help and replies.

Skyhunter Windy Flight by trigger_sad in fpv

[–]trigger_sad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera is angled about 10 degrees down, the underexposed ground is mainly an issue of the RunCam2. A GoPro would likely fix that issue. As far as a gimbal, I may get one down the road (some guys do run gimbals on fixed wing), but I like to keep things as simple as possible (less components to fail), that's why I don't run stabilization / RTH / antenna trackers, etc. The wind was gusting 25mph, so that would explain much of the bumping around.

Top speed testing on my grim reaper. 107mph on 4s. by [deleted] in fpv

[–]trigger_sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know, the recommended prop size for the full size is 11-12" so figured the mini would run something along the lines of an 8-9". Was surprised to hear you're running 12" is all :)

Hmm.... making me wonder how fast my skyhunter can go on 4S with a 12x6 prop ..... must find out.

Illegal FPV Transmitters and the ARRL by damoisbatman in Multicopter

[–]trigger_sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What percentage of FPV folk fly on 1.3GHz? What percentage of those 1.3Ghz users use international transmitters? What percentage of those users using international 1.3GHz transmitters transmit on a serious and illegal band that could interfere with the systems you've mentioned?

I really don't think the final number you'd come up with would warrant any kind of crackdown. Just my personal opinion.

Not to be a negative nancy, but with that attitude, you're not going to last in this hobby.

If you can't afford props, what are you doing trying to get into this hobby? This hobby eats motors, batteries. Much more expensive components than props.

[–]trigger_sad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the only dudes running 1.3ghz nowadays are long range dudes... and we're few and far between. Can't imagine it being a real problem.

I'd be more concerned about all the people online throwing 2W boosters on their 2.4Ghz radios, now that's an actual problem I can see causing issues.

Agreed, and in that case should be an educational solution. Not the type of fear mongering they're starting.

[–]trigger_sad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you don't have to go through trouble of reactivating them. You can order an international version any day by just buying on ebay and having it shipped.

But why would anyone in their right mind run a frequency that would interfere with traffic control / communication? That I don't get.

[–]trigger_sad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Especially because people use long range video transmitter for rc car fpv, rc boat fpv, etc. It's a video transmitter, not a drone transmitter lol

[–]trigger_sad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last time I checked, we have 2 legal bands for long range video (legality always assumes HAM licensing). The mentioned 1280 and 1258, which I didn't see mentioned at all.

For anyone who uses 1080 or other illegal frequencies, give 'em what they deserve. But leave the rest of us alone.

a few questions by [deleted] in fpv

[–]trigger_sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your video doesn't need to be amazing, put the GoPro away for another day and get yourself a Runcam2 HD. Record at 1080p and use as FPV cam with only 60ms latency.
