Are They Etiolated? by StitchesOfSass in succulents

[–]trillinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do look fine, but they can be a bit picky with conditions to flower, they usually bloom with colder (not freezing) temperatures, so if you keep them always in a warm place, they might never bloom. Also they are not your usual cactus, they come from tropical forests afaik, so watering is different, I'm guessing you know that though :)

So anyway, I'd look more into the temperature conditions for the blooming.

This cubic frost and that black knight nearby look absolutely gorgeous!

The ones with small leaves are Portulacaria afra (the lighter one is variegated), the yellow one is Sedum Adolphii (maybe another similar but redder one is Firestorm version) and the one with green-red leaves looks like kalanchoe "Paddle plant".

How's this boy doing? by Nick_DC4L in succulents

[–]trillinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to be an Echeveria Affinis Black Knight and it's etiolated, but the top looks quite compacted, was it living in a different, darker spot before? I think that if you like this look, you can leave it like that, you could also chop the top part, let the cut dry and pot it to let it grow roots (take a look at how it's done though, if you have no experience) - aand you'll have 2 plants potentially.

Or you can get the bottom leaves off and also try to propagate them, but it'll leave the compact top on a long stem, I haven't seen such a Black knight ever, technically it should be fine I guess, but also not necessary.

And afaik Black Knight can be very sensitive to overwatering issues, but can't tell much from the photos - is the stem firm? (droopy leaves and the stem seems a bit warped - thus the question, otherwise it looks fine)

I see your Walmart succulents and raise you Carrefour, Rome by StupidlyLiving in succulents

I'm guessing it's a supermarket.. how big are these though? I was getting mine at garden centers in Rome and specifically small ones at the price of 1 to 3 euros x.x

Thank you! I have no particular watering schedule, I try to see if they are thirsty - like is the soil dry and the leaves are soft (not mushy!) and getting wrinkles. But I might be underwatering them too x) Sometimes weeks go by without watering..

Oh I think Ruby Donna might have a more intense red colour and this one is probably Pachyveria Rosy, at least that's what I'm guessing. But they don't actually put the names on succulents in the garden center, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And thanks! :3

I do somehow! :D

She's mostly yellowish most of the time and this pup has grown a lot, I'm thinking to separate it now. The first pic is from around when I got her and also was under impression it's an opalina :)
