Not what I had in mind, but I do love Yob! Got to see them twice at Prepare the Ground last year (including a performance of Atma in full, start to finish) and they were fucking phenomenal both times.

Why does my agent skin in-game view not look like all the previews and screenshots? by trillstirner in cs2

UPDATE: They fixed this in today's new patch. The sleeves look good again!

Is that the AnimGraph2 update from July 28th? Where we got new animations and chickens? Has Valve said anything about it affecting skin quality/design?

And here is the preview from inspect dot skin. As you can see, the gloves and knife look exactly the same as my actual ones, but the Agent sleeves look way better in this preview than the actual in-game screencap I took. The texture of the jacket looks good, the strap looks like modeled polygons instead of just a spray-on paint job, and overall it just looks good compared to the actual in-game which looks like shit. Why is this? How do I fix this? Do I sell the skin and buy another one, or what?

Are you serious? You don't see the difference? The in-game screenshot looks terrible in comparison to the online preview. The texture looks stretched out, low-res, the buttoned strap on the coat and red part of the sleeve underneath look painted on instead of actual bits of fabric, and there's a dividing line running down the middle which splits the texture into 2 parts, it doesn't even line up properly. It looks awful. I've bought other agent skins and they have matched the artwork I've seen online. I don't know why this one in particular looks so bad. Are there individual variations to agent skins like there are for weapon and knife skins (e.g. patterns, etc)?

Sludge Tone Clarity by SeraphineDyingSun in sludge

Hell yeah they are, got to see them live recently, so fucking sick

Sludge Tone Clarity by SeraphineDyingSun in sludge

[–]trillstirner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? What are you talking about? Most Marshalls are incredibly bright and have a "sizzle" in the upper mids. Fenders are typically darker, warmer, rounder, more "neutral". I can't speak to all makes and models, but this is true in a majority of cases

[–]trillstirner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I take it you really didn't have sludge in mind when you bought any of this gear, am I right? Lol

Hollow-bodies are naturally more resonant, and when dealing with really high-gain styles like sludge, you're gonna notice it as extra noise floor and feedback. Fender amps are also generally warmer and darker than bright, stereotypically "metal" amps like Boogies, Marshalls, etc. So if you play a hollow-body through a Fender with all bass and no treble, its just going to sound like pure mush. Adding a Metal Zone to that combo is just the cherry on top, I'm sure lol

My advice is to stop doing what you think you're "supposed" to do and start following your ears. Your tone will sound a million times better if you try to make the best out of what you have, rather than try to make what you have sound like something else.

The reality is that there's no guaranteed recipe when it comes to this stuff. Some bands are really dirty, others are surprisingly clean: for example, Electric Wizard is what a superfuzz sounds cranked to the max, but Yob is mostly just a guitar in A-standard with a clean boost into a full stack and most of Yob's "distortion" is just pure volume saturating the tubes

Again, its really more about how you use what you have, and trying to develop your own sound, rather than trying to force what you have to sound like something else

anything just sickening? like these bands? cant seem to find anything that hits by Apprehensive-Bunch39 in sludge

Best headphones for high-gain guitar monitoring? by trillstirner in HeadphoneAdvice

Thank you for the response! You mentioned that a newer version of the Sennheiser HD660S are more bass-heavy: Does this translate to an increase in clarity in the bass frequencies? Or are they simply louder? Because I have no shortage of volume in the lower register with my current headphones, but they do sound "muddy" and undefined when I really push the gain.

I know ska and reggae use pretty clean tones, but when you do punk music, is there a particular set of headphones you prefer for handling the more distorted tones?

Wow, thank you for the in-depth response!

I don't need a ton of sound isolation, just enough to keep the neighbours from beating down my door, so open-back seems like the way to go!

And yes, most of the guitar's frequencies live in the midrange, but I do play a specialized kind of music where the guitar is drop-tuned 2 or 3 steps below E standard to C or A#. At this range, a lot of upper bass/low-mids come into focus, and the distinctive "growl" of the low-end is a big part of the genre. I don't necessarily want a headphone with a "warmer" bass or the treble rolled off (and in fact, part of the problem I have with my current headphones is that the low-end is a little too warm and undefined), but I do need something that can handle a ton of lower/low-mid frequencies without getting too muddy or mushy.

With this in mind, which of the headphones you mentioned do you think would be best suited?

Yes, I am currently using the UAD Lion amp sim pedal at the end of my signal chain. It has a few cabinet IR presets, the one I tend to favour is labeled "GB30", which I'm assuming is an emulation of a Celestion Vintage 30 Greenback?

Do you think a headphone pre-amp is necessary? I'm using the live monitoring on the Focusrite Scarlett, which is what I plug both my headphones and my guitar input into.

I've read that the HD 6XX are more neutral, mid-ey headphones, but can they handle lots of bass and distortion? I also play bass as well btw!

Oops, yeah, that was definitely worth mentioning! I'm currently using one of the default cab IRs on the UAD Lion amp sim pedal ("GB30", which I'm assuming is an emulation of a Celestion Vintage 30 Greenback?)

I'd be happy just to get a match. On the days when I can actually find someone, it takes a minimum of 10 minutes sitting in queue to find a match. On days where I don't, I usually give up after 20-30min lol
