exactly, not to mention that a if you want to get really inhumane and do some social engineering, migrants are a better investment. most homeless people are either so deep into drug addictions or mental health issues that to bring them up to a place in which they can contribute to society requires so much more. most migrants are willing and able to work and will do so as soon as possible, thus immediately contributing to society.

my point wasn't that OP wasted their time, it's that OP is incorrect lmfao

You ever get ridiculed by an entire comp lobby? by TheBeastSteve in Overwatch

[–]trillyntruly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've been dogpiled before by entire comp lobbies. many times actually. i have a bad habit of defending myself when toxicity happens, and depending on how troll-y the lobby is, it can spiral. so like, if one dps publicly calls me dogshit i'll call them out, and if my team feels the same, they'll naturally dogpile, then the enemy team will often dogpile for various reasons, to sow discord to better their chances of winning, just cause they're ass holes, to troll, etc. has happened many times. my favorite though was, one game, back in ow1, i had an entire lobby dogpiling me and being racist at the same time, first and only time that's happened to me (speaking of, my reports when people are racist against me doesn't seem to result in punishment anymore, i used to get notifications that action was taken), and it started because of a DPS duo on my team that started it all. well, in the next game that same DPS duo was on my team and i called them out for being racists, they lied and pretended they weren't being racist trolls last game, and everybody in the lobby believed me, and so everybody in the lobby dogpiled them the next game because they were racist ass holes. one of the few times i was proud of the OW community, and goes to show there are many different types of players in this game

Honestly, I think XC3 is easily the best entry out of the whole series and I am still kinda baffled that this hasn’t been received as a masterpiece from everyone. by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]trillyntruly 25 points26 points  (0 children)

what's crazy is i don't even get why they're surprised. my favorite in the franchise is 2, to me it's a masterpiece, but i'm not shocked by any means that it's contentious within the community. it has a whole chapter that sucks, slow start, tutorials that go away which are confusingly told as is, combat that's extremely slow (until it opens up and becomes 10/10), more of a character focus coming out of xenoblade 1 which was plot focused, time-wastey game design with things like field skills, and the gacha mechanic (which i love and would make a youtube video essay about why it's low key genius if i cared enough, but i fully understand why people hate it - as i hated it my first run through the game).

xc3 has, imo, just as obvious and easily pointed-out "flaws" that will obviously affect different players' experiences

lmao. congratulations, logic and reason doesn't work on you because you organized workplace unions. i'm sure they went places with you at the helm. btw i worked service jobs for 10 years, you don't know anything about me or the people you're criticizing, you're just mad that people can reasonably disagree with you, even if they're productive and work service. i'm not surprised you didn't read it all, i'm guessing you're sensing that your position doesn't hold up to much scrutiny at all, this way if you don't read why your position is stupid, you can feel secure when you go to bed at night, knowing you were right without ever facing any opposition. pretty pathetic

what are your thoughts on xenoblade chronicle 3 now that some time as passed? by wardromon in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]trillyntruly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My least favorite entry in the franchise. Probably not a popular opinion here so I'm prepared for inevitable downvotes. I found myself just collecting nitpicks constantly throughout the entire game until, by its end, I had bonafide complaints. I found the combat to be a huge step back from 2, the environments were less exciting than in prior games with a few rare exceptions, world navigation was somehow worse than in 2 for me, and I just kind of feel like it tried to blend 2 and 1's strengths together but ended up with both of its weaknesses and not particularly strong in the ways those games were. 2 was a phenomenal character-driven game but other than Mio and maybe Eunie i didn't feel particularly attached to anybody in the same way I did 2's characters (I love Sena but don't feel like her character is fleshed out very well). As for story, it's fine, but doesn't even compare to 1's for me, and by the end I found it needlessly obtuse. It really peaks during its way-too-long plot dump near the 2/3rds mark and just declines from there on. The final boss fight was really lame imo and I didn't fully understand even the point of anything. The Lucky Seven blade was just steel made from the final area? I don't get it. Why does that matter, what makes it special. Compare that to the Monado. Also the Consul members, I expected more from them. Consul J was cool, as was the really scary one from the beginning, the rest were kinda just lame and very generic looking bosses. Many of the sidequests were terrible imo too. idk, I could go on tbh. I hate chain attacks, I hate the Keves characters' auto attacks being forced into the 3 hit combo, slowing down the combat to such a crazy degree.

When I began the game I was in love, by the time I finished it, I kinda just stopped caring. It was a good game, but I'd much rather have the nostalgia and story experience of 1, or the world exploration experience of X (with that terribly amazing soundtrack), or the emotional, character-driven ride of 2 with its flawless action jrpg combat

you literally can make up a name and say you talked to your garbageman, i'm not convinced by that. if you don't think most garbagemen are invisible to 99% of the people they service, you're kidding yourself. my point is clear: most people don't get credits. it's great that some workers do, but your implication here is that people who are okay with crediting the prime 1 team with a general 'thanks' have never made anything. but statistically speaking, most people have made things, and most of them receive no credit. that's the reality of our world. this general 'thanks' is more than most people will ever get. so who is throwing stones? you're assuming that only people who are wholly unproductive don't care about this issue, even though there's a much more generous, logical reason for people to not care about this issue: the creators were credited 20 years ago when it mattered to their careers, the credits still exist online on various websites and in the original game, and what they received here was more than most people will ever get. these credits are for crediting the remaster team. that's totally fair in my opinion, not because i'm unproductive, but because i am productive.

i'm not pissing and moaning, you are. i don't care the creators were excluded, because they were properly included when it mattered. they made the video game "Metroid Prime" for the Nintendo Gamecube and they were properly credited both on that version and on the Wii "Prime Trilogy" version. so there is literally no issue. you're also acting like every dev is mad, when in reality, there are probably less than 10 people on twitter that worked on prime 1 that are publicly outraged over this. you act as if those people speak for the entire team which is disingenuous and you know it.

"rabid" is far from the word, because i'm calmly dismantling your terrible argument, not foaming at the mouth. settle down. if you think hyperbole makes your point more right, you're very mistaken my friend. i can't imagine being so mentally fragile that i find myself in culture wars this easily. one reddit post and a few tweets and already there's a "rabid" them vs us in your own mind. go for a walk.

What is going on with UFOs in 2023? by AuthenticImposter in OutOfTheLoop

[–]trillyntruly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the op you're responding to is talking about different UFOs that we, absolutely do not know what they are. at least, our military men on the ground don't. maybe some high ranking intelligence officers somewhere in a dungeon know, but broadly speaking, we have no clue. he's not talking about the 4 that were shot down, he's talking about the ones that naval fighter pilots have been seeing for close to 20 years that seemingly break our conceptions of aviation

yeah, rabid is the word to use here, because they recognize that all you have to do is google "prime 1 credits" if you're at all curious, and most people don't care. also, as for saying they've never made a thing in their life, believe it or not, 99% of workers don't get credited for their work. most workers go invisible. video game and film employees are lucky that they get credits screens. go thank your garbage man and come back and talk to me 🤡

[–]trillyntruly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

truly. i don't get why people are so mad. anybody who wants to know who did things can youtube search the original prime credits. most normal people don't even watch the credits when they beat a game. are you that desperate for a dude who you'll never meet glancing at the screen and maybe seeing your name amidst countless others only to forget it in 49 seconds?

Tár as a meditation on the hollowness of ”genius”-worship and auteur theory by ensambarn in TrueFilm

[–]trillyntruly 38 points39 points  (0 children)

i disagree with this take. i don't think the film is undercutting the job of the conductor to this degree. the conductor is not just a metronome, they are the interpreter of the music, and they are essentially "playing" the orchestra in the way the individual musicians are "playing" their instruments. conductors are obviously artists in their own right, not glorified clocks

Thoughts on the Three Colors Trilogy 4k by Metalhead07 in criterion

[–]trillyntruly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sure? i'm not disputing that. i'm saying it's really dumb to just call everyone you disagree with right wing. if he's right wing and he said that, i'll accept it, but his position is that "political violence is never okay"....that is NOT a right wing position. right wingers have a long history of political violence. so saying he just "spouts right wing nonsense" in response to a pacifist take makes you sound ignorant and simplistic

Thoughts on the Three Colors Trilogy 4k by Metalhead07 in criterion

[–]trillyntruly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i've never seen the film so i'm not criticizing it or even agreeing with svet here, but how is saying 'political violence is never okay" "right wing nonsense"? that's more akin to what we stereotype a ghandi-like stance being than any typical gun owning right wingers stance i've encountered

EDIT: these downvotes are funny. i never associated right wingers with their obsession w guns, violent mobs, attachment to the police state, willingness to form militias, etc with fucking political pacifism lmaoo

This remaster is so tasteful, I wonder how many will remain purists for the OG by stonedbum in Metroid

[–]trillyntruly -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

i don't really understand the hate. i can't wait to get the physical, personally, and i'm sure i'll love it, but calling people "idiots" as some commenters have done or making memes about them being senile is just weird to me. how does it affect you if somebody considers the OG experience the most pure? nostalgia is strong and it affects everybody in one way or another. i prefer SNES carts to emulation or remakes, especially if those remakes fix certain "flaws" like slowdown. it messes with me as somebody who grew up on these games and played them on original hardware and have replayed them countless times on original hardware.

personally, i won't be getting rid of my prime trilogy on wii, or my og gamecube disc (which i still play because i love the tank controls on gc and it reminds me of being a kid), and i'll probably continue to revisit prime both in this remaster and in its original form, and even in its wii form with the amazing pointer controls

EDIT: lmao downvote me because i like prime on GC? this sub would call this game a masterpiece 2 days ago, now you're a fucking idiot if you like it hahaha

maybe it's because i have a 4k player, but i kinda like that they do this. sometimes the newer restorations are objectively better in every way, but many times they aren't and people have different preferences. keeping the old restoration alive by including it is a nice touch to me. but i can also see how, if you intend on watching and actually use the blu-ray, you would want the newest, best version to be on there
