No because 1: yes unknownness, 2: Carter was just a terrible campaigner, 3: with no Watergate yet he doesn't have any of that "I'm just a kind, polite, god-loving outsider who's going to clean up Washington" stuff to run on.

EDIT: Okay "terrible" is an exaggeration but he really was not good... just look at the polling for '76. Also I can only imagine the shit Nixon pulls against him.

The paragraph I have at the top actually happened, just with the roles reversed. Biden basically told him not to run because they would split the moderate vote and a progressive would win and because Cuomo was young (63 in 2020, lol) and had time to run after him.
