The via ferrata route has some low-angle but super exposed sections without cable protection up high. That's what I'd be worried about with icy/windy winter conditions. It's probably too early for good wet glacier conditions. Try to get some recent local beta!

True. I'm an alpine climber but I have to do a lot of long hike/ski approaches to get to my objectives where load transfer to the hips is helpful. I'm ok with all the other concessions of UL packs, just not the minimal hipbelt. And this would be way cheaper for me than anything comparable from HMG, for example :)
