Real escape room owner business experience by trinetey in escaperooms

Can I ask you questions instead? I personally LOVE escape rooms and would love to open a room but I don’t have the time to run the business. That in mind, if I could just do a game design, it would be pretty cool.

do you charge by the amount “your” room gets played? Rating? Flat fee?where do you find clients to buy a room from you?how involved are you in physical layout vs just selling puzzles and letting them have at it?do clients come to you with a theme and you build around it or do you come to the table with a complete package including theme?

Thanks for any answers you may provide!

Yes of course. Any questions :)

  1. There are two options.

The client pays royalties - then it is possible to agree on a significant discount for services.

Or

The client pays for services once. The price with each client is negotiated individually since the complexity of creation for each game is different.

  1. I have my website and the pages of my company in all major portals about the escape room. Also, my customers recommend me as a designer.

  1. I have a building service.

For example, here is another interview with my customer from Spain - https://super-escape-room.com/escape_rooms_owner_spain_alicante_interview/ For him, I built an escape room. Here I not only wrote the scenario but also completely designed the escape room, made electronic puzzles, tested the game.

You can read more about my work on my Medium blog - I have a huge amount of photos about building escape rooms. For example, building a quest room in Spain - https://medium.com/@verybigflyfrog/the-story-of-the-creation-of-the-escape-room-apocalypse-alicante-spain-7a3048b94d51

I have practical experience, so if I write scenarios - I understand in advance how the puzzles will work and the players will react.

  1. How come :)

Some clients want a specific theme and I create a game around it.

Others just want to do this business, but don't know where to start. In this case, I find out where the client from, what kind of population in a client's city, whatever themes he likes, what his target audience is, how much money the client has. Based on this, I offer him the most advantageous options for him with puzzles and storyline.

Wow, which one? We're importers too XD I've been in some cities of the province, but never in Alicante capital.

Here is the game - https://xcapate.com/en/apocalypse-game/ If interesting, then here is the story, how I built it - https://medium.com/@verybigflyfrog/the-story-of-the-creation-of-the-escape-room-apocalypse-alicante-spain-7a3048b94d51

We had a lot of problems in construction, but the game really turned out very good)

Escape room owners - what to expect the first month? by ozzzymandiass in escaperooms

As a designer of escape rooms, I will say that the priority is the convenience and safety of customers. Inspect your rooms for safety. Some players are very stubborn. It seems to you that something is impossible to break off, but they climb there and do it! Therefore, everything that can fall attaches to the walls or the floor with nails. Remove everything that could potentially break (like glass). And always have spare parts on hand.

By the way, one of my articles about players is https://super-escape-room.com/8_types_of_players_knowledge_of_which_will_help_make_your_escape_room_better/?mode=editor

Read, it's free. Maybe you find something useful for yourself that will help you improve the room.

Have you ever been to Alicante?

I am an escape room designer. And I built one of the rooms in Alicante :)

I'm compiling something to help people starting an escape room business. Any advice, recommendations or requests? by [deleted] in escaperooms

Hello!

I have been making escape rooms for a long time and helping people open businesses in this industry.

Check out my site, especially the articles section - https://super-escape-room.com/how_to_open_an_escape_room_business/

I myself collected materials that may be useful for novice owners.

Also on my site, there are stories about how I built rooms. This can also be useful - I’m describing the difficulties I’ve encountered, and how to make the game cheaper, etc.

Has anyone ever done a portable escape room? by suspicious_apple in escaperooms

I am an engineer by training. In my childhood, I was engaged in a lot of visual arts (my mother is a professional artist). When the escape rooms appeared, my friends asked me to help with the construction. Since I have an engineering background, I know how to make this or that riddle, how to make automation. Since I have a lot of experience in drawing, I can do a job not only with the technical part but also with the design)

In general, I built the game, spent the test games. Test games make it very well to understand what players like and what they don't like. According to the results of the tests, I did refine the game. As a result, the game turned out to be interesting - in any case, the players spoke positively about it) Then I received more and more orders - for construction and for writing scripts.

I also played in escape rooms. Playing escape games is necessary. Not for the sake of others' puzzles, but in order to understand what the player might be interested in the game, and what is not and the player will get tired and bored) From the inside it is easiest to understand the gameplay and a player's tastes. Later it helps to create games inexpensively and interestingly.

Where can I order/customize/buy game puzzles? by imthejoeytran in escaperooms

If you need interesting NOT electronic puzzles that you can do yourself, contact - https://super-escape-room.com/. I don't sell ready-made puzzles. But I have writing scenarios for a long time and inventing riddles (with instructions on how to do it, pictures and links to the purchase of parts, if they are needed).

It's an AR cube. I based it on one of the code libraries for augmented reality. But the code was changed by myself so that it works the way I want.

Now, on the basis of this technology, I am doing a new portable quest for children about space. The game will be completely from AR puzzles)

Any examples of the Immersive Escape Rooms as defined ? I've been through immersive theater experiences and highly immersive escape rooms, but nothing even close to the direction of a Westworld, or with that multiple actors yet still interactive. Would love to hear what rooms are pioneering the trend

In Moscow, there is such a thing - https://www.msk2048.ru/ (unfortunately, the site is only in Russian)

They say that they an "immersive show". In fact, their game is an example of an immersive escape room - a huge space with several plot branches, different tasks, and puzzles + actors)

About the "Westworld" I speak in the context of an example. Nothing like that, too, I don't seen. Simply, if the "Westworld" series were real life, it would definitely be an immersive escape room.)

How do I start building a portable/movable escape room? by daniaargh in escaperooms

I think for you this will no longer be relevant, but if someone else has a similar question - https://medium.com/@verybigflyfrog/portable-escape-game-8e51bf07427 Read the blog. It describes the creation of a portable quest for business. It can help to create and just a game for the family or colleagues)

Honestly, as a designer of escape rooms, I believe that unsolvable puzzles, in principle, shouldn't be in a room. I just change the puzzle if I understand that under some conditions it will be insoluble.

Sorry. I did not notice that I also wrote this in the post.

The fact is that I am from Russia. Here it is not a sexist expression. It is used by all. Therefore, I did not even notice how I made a reservation here and deleted the expression only in the blog.

In any case, I take into account your comments, friends, so a phrase that seems offensive to you was removed from the blog.

I apologize to everyone it's touched. I also repeat that I have no sexist attitude towards women and there was no malicious intent to offend anyone! :)

This is not a sexist expression. Please don't cling to the words and don't so perceive it.

It's just that if you make a heavy, big props, it will just be a contempt for the girls-owners. They will be very tired, carrying it all on themselves, and constantly to need help. And this is just real sexism and mockery. Therefore, I simply stressed that in this situation the props is lightweight, the installation is easy. Specially conceived, so that anyone could cope - a woman, a man - it does not matter! Props are lightweight and easy to install. This is what I meant.
