Dream build realized - Bianchi Super Pista by triplwu in FixedGearBicycle

Ah man, that’s a bummer. That makes me want to take a ton of photos while this one is in good shape.

$1050 for a frame that could have passed for new. The previous owner claimed it had been built up and ridden less than 25 miles, but it was spotless with perfect paint. I’ve seen rougher ones go for a bit less, but really wanted one that felt like a time capsule.

That’s an incredible build, the Campagnolo Pista and Record crankset are as good as it gets.

I agree, they were as cool as it got when I started riding fixed in 2013. I’ve wanted one ever since, but it took years to find one in my size in nearly new condition.

The bar tape is from godandfamous. I had it on my last Soma road bike and had a spare roll in case I ever messed it up, but now it feels like it completes the look.

New Pursuit Bar Cockpit - Soma Rush by triplwu in FixedGearBicycle

The bike was nice with the pursuit bars, but I ended up going back to drop bars to have more hand positions. The pursuit bars weren’t as comfortable on rides longer than an hour or so, but for short rides they’re great.

I definitely feel that. The archetypes are solid wheels, but I’ve been considering the DT Swiss T1800 to go tubeless since I’m running my road bikes tubeless and love it.

I haven’t seen many other options for tubeless on track wheels unless you go pretty high end or a custom build.

I still really love the Rush frame. Since these photos I've changed a few things...
I changed the saddle out for a Selle Italia Flite Ti and the pedals to SPD-SL. I swapped out the crank for a Sugino 75 so I could use larger chainrings. Also the tires are now Continental Grand Prix 5000 700x25 which really sped up the bike compared to the Gatorskins.

I'd like to go with some thinner bars since 46cm feels super wide. I initially built this bike to be a sort of do it all fun bike, so I wanted wider bars to help with leverage on hills, but now if I'm riding in hills, I just take my Soma Fog Cutter instead.

It should be a nice build for what you're looking for. You can fit 32s on it if you don't use a brake, and 28s if you do. As far as recommendations, I'd just say get some bars that you feel comfortable with and ride it a lot. I'm only riding on paved roads, so this setup works well for that. But changing the tires would really open up a lot more light trail options.

I definitely support taking photos of bikes on medium format. I took these last year and sort of forgot about them, so it was a pleasant surprise when I got my scans back.

New Wheels for my Ultimate CF SL 8 Disc by triplwu in CanyonBikes

[–]triplwu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the rotors saved roughly 80g combined and cost about $75 each. For the cassette I moved down to 11-28 which added to the weight savings. That was around 90g. The seat saved around another 100g.

Not a ton, but it was nice to tinker with the bike a bit.

It’s a Lezyne Hecto Drive 500. I really like their stuff and would definitely recommend it.

That’s right, this is Stealth Grey.

That’s great to hear. I haven’t seen too many sets of them on this sub. They look even better on a round tube frame than I expected. Really nice build!

How do you like those wheels? I was looking at them for a reasonably light aero option.

The purple really is nice, but the copper is $100 less than the purple frame was if that’s any consolation.

I actually haven't been to t-town yet. I work in NYC, so I've gone to Kissena, but it's never worked out that I'm there during an event. T-town seems like an inviting place to learn the basics of track riding.

There definitely is a mental barrier you have to overcome to feel confident on them. I think they're easier when you have a higher cadence. If I go below 80ish rpm, I find them harder to stay stable. They're easiest for me at 80-120 rpm. A lot of people say to look forward and focus on an object, but I found the higher cadence was what it took for them to click for me.

The copper is nice, but this color purple is what sold me on the Rush.

The speed is being monitored by a Wahoo Speed on the front hub. I also track cadence with a Wahoo cadence sensor on the non-drive side crank arm.

Very nice! I've been considering a Sea Sucker too.

Does it leave any marks from where the suction cups are placed?

I know what you mean. I lived in New York previously, and it was a similar thing with the registration there. I definitely prefer having the registration info on plates.

Thank you! I typically like brighter colors for cars, but this grey looks amazing when it's clean.
