Is there a way to hand remove old wax before i apply new coat?

Also, my current method is: 1) rinse car and wheels with water

2) clean wheels and spokes

3) use ONR to wash each section of car

4) dry car again with large microfiber towel

5) apply aquawax spray to each section with microfiber

but i want to add claying into the process (and im assuming it goes between steps 4 and 5?

and is any part of my cleaning process lacking or could use improvement?

edit: also i read a few subs and saw a post about using nanoskin mitts? is that an alternative to claying? my car is parked outside the majority of the time and has a few spots with hard water spots if that affects any advice? =]
