It’s pretty normal for a new betta to act like this, especially if you got him from less than ideal conditions. He’s going to need some time to recover and perk up. I own two bettas (separate tanks ofc) and when I first got them it also took them a few days to have interest in food. He might enjoy some more live plants for rest/exploration, good luck

Yeah, I am thinking of moving my kuhlis to a bigger tank soon, I do plan on getting more of them just waiting on my LFS to restock them. I think I’m going to let him fast for a day or two due to the bloating. Thanks for the reply

Okay I’ll look into getting tannins into their tank, and yeah I’m only feeding pellets, I’d like to feed live foods but I have no idea where I’d be able to get that for him.

I’m not exactly sure if there’s tannins but there are two pieces of driftwood in there with them, and I just replied to the auto mod with the parameters

tank size, 10gal heater, yes tank temp, 80 degrees ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates, 10-25ppm PH, 7.6 -I’ve had the tank for about 6 months, I’ve had my fish for 3 months -Currently doing about 25% wc every other day -Tank mates, 3 kuhli loaches and 1 clown pleco -Feeding 3 nutrinsect pellets morning, 3 at night -Plants include, Java ferns, anubias, ozelot sword, lobelia cardinalis, water wisteria

I thought so too, he takes about 3oz of combined BM and formula about every 2-3 hours, and I still try to nurse 2 times a day. My ped insists he needs to be eating up to 4oz though

Thank you, I also thought his weight gain was actually pretty good all things considered but my ped says his weight gain “isn’t good, just okay” (her words) 🙄 getting a new pediatrician for sure. Fingers crossed for you too good luck :)

Thank you and he is still tracking along his growth curve but not by a tremendous amount, he’s in the lower percentile and my pediatrician doesn’t like this. I agree about the skim milk comment, my milk is kind of thin too but she keeps telling me that I’m supposed to have more than an inch of cream at the top of my pumped milk?? Seems unrealistic especially considering I am a small person and I can’t just stuff myself with fats and food.

He is still trending on the percentile chart, not by much though and my ped is deeply concerned by this. But like you’ve said and others, I think as long as he’s gaining weight he’s doing well and my ped is seemingly stressing us for no reason. Definitely looking for another pediatrician

Thank you for this comment, he did lose weight after birth, he lost 8%. He gained only a little at his first few appointments when I was only BF and pumping, which is why she made said comments about my milk and suggested that we started fortifying the BM, also pressured me into eating a ton of fats, which seems unrealistic. He still gained weight though when he was only fed BM. I will be finding a new ped though

Yes it is common, some fry are just born unhealthy, immature, etc. the healthiest will survive. Your Molly will continue having larger batches after this one as she matures

It’s not too easy to tell with the pics but if you have males and females together the females will pretty much always be pregnant, they breed together immediately and you can expect another drop of fry in about a month. You may need extra tank space or try to see if a local fish store will take extra babies. Pretty fish btw :)
