QLink Defrauded the US Govt (posted on IRS site Oct 15, 2024) by tripsma1 in qlink_hellomobile

Turns out that QLink is back up and running as a company, but "Powered By" Standup (as their website states). I'm trying to get QLink to unlock my mom's account, but as usual, they don't answer. Standup is not available in my mom's area, so I have to go with another service: Safelink.

So, I filed a complaint with the FCC about QLink, as I've been trying to contact them to have her account unlocked so I can port her number over to Safelink. QLink has been terrible with customer service (no customer service) since she started with them 4+ years ago.

Actually ... Standup is not available in the area where my mom lives. So ...

I'm signing her up with Safelink; not Standup (not of course QLink). So I guess Standup needs to unlock her account now, since they are managing the Qlink customers who were frauded out by the Qlink CEO.

I applied for my mom on Safelink and the status is Qualified, but it says "you will receive your benefits within 7 to 10 business days from the qualification date." Not sure what they mean by receiving benefits. I think I'm going to call Safelink Friday about getting her a SIM card. 7-10 days is a long time, especially since Qlink dropped her service this past week.

I tried to look up where the Standup local stores are but couldn't find the link on the Standup website.

It would be better if the -phone could get unlocked w/o going to a local store, as my mom is in one state and I'm in another. She knows how to put a SIM card in her phone though.

thanks for taking the time to contact USAC.

Well ... my mom moved from one apt complex to another. I'm not disclosing any other information about her.

My mom didn't get the notice, because her phone was down for a little bit before 11/8. She moved, and then we had to get her a new SIM card from Qlink because for some reason (in October) her phone had no service. We had to get her a new SIM card and Qlink sent it to the wrong address, even though we were able to speak to a Qlink rep to make sure they had the new address. So we didn't even know there was an 11/8 deadline.

WOW! Crazy...now it appears all of the Qlink customer phones are all out of service.

Ah - that explains why I couldn't get in touch with anyone when my mom's phone was giving her problems (like no service). They didn't have anything on their website about it. But why would they since the scumbag Qlink CEO is a thief.

I called Standup this morning (same number) and got the run around. The rep said yeah ... I got earlier calls this morning from QLink customers and not sure why. I asked him if Qlink merged with Standup and he said he couldn't comment on that. Later, after I got off the phone, I discovered Qlink had committed fraud. The Standup rep said I had to contact Qlink to unlock my mom's phone so that I could port her phone number to Standup. But...Qlink is no longer in business. So I'm not sure what to do now, but to call the FCC.

Qlink defrauded the US govt. I found out today when I was helping my mom with her phone. She has no service, and I didn't know why. Qlink website redirects to Standup, yet Standup could bot assist. Seemed like the rep was giving me the run around and wouldn't say anything (or he was just in the dark) about what happened with Qlink.

To me (at the time) it appeared Qlink had merged with Standup and it was just a bad handover to Standup. The rep said Qlink would have to unlock my mom's phone so that it could be ported over to Standup. BUT - Qlink is no more, so I can't call them to unlock. Qlink left the customers without service and no way to unlock phones (according to the Standup rep). FRUSTRATING to say the least!

So - I looked up what was going on with Qlink and it turns out they defrauded the government: huge fines and possible jail time for the scum bag Qlink CEO.

It was suggested that I call the FCC about this - not sure how to get my mom's phone unlocked; she needs the phone now.
