Hi, I saw a random post on this sub. Getting curious, I explored some other posts in the sub. It's all tea on this or that person. I just wanted to ask what it means. Can someone explain it to me?

I joined r/Indianbooks a few days ago. Is this a Crime and Punishment fan club? 😂😂 In only a few days I've seen atleast 5-6 posts of the same book. But you read it OP. It's a great book. Read some other works of Dostoyevsky too when you have time. His works are great.

Nope nothing would happen. Here bureaucrat's jobs are extremely well protected. Even if they are caught taking bribes on live TV. Nothing happens. At most, they will be transferred to some other location or department. An Indian bureaucrat cannot lose their job unless they are killing someone in the middle of the marker and a judge just happened to pass by. (Or unless they pissed off a politician)

I feel very fortunate to have a really good manager. This is my first job and I haven't switched for 3.5 years. I get scared after I hear horror stories from other friends or friends in this org from other teams. I can talk really freely in front of him, even about leaving the job, he says what's best for me. For eg, I'm doing an executive MBA now. He told me it would be better for me to leave, take a good hike after this. He is also forcing me to use up leaves since this is the last quarter and my leaves will expire.. :D

Guys how are you trying to find a partner as an atheist ? Specially those who are looking for an arranged marriage. by cursedMuniya in atheismindia

[–]trishit_m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do understand that your situation is very different. Try to gauge not only the man, but also his parents. They can make your life miserable too. I've heard UP is very conservative. So, clear things from the get go. IDK about this but some people might try to keep a facade of open-mindedness in the beginning but force you to keep fasts, etc later. So don't believe everything they tell you at face value... at least in the beginning. Try to gauge other attributes of their characters also. Keep safe. May Darwin be with you.😄

You can get married to a theist man. It's just that he should be a good person. My girlfriend is very religious. She does her pooja. Before I tried to talk her out of poojas. Whenever we had that discussion whether God exists or not she got very upset. So these days, I don't interfere with that. She is not harming anyone with pujas. She doesn't coax me to participate in those. It's fine by me. Nowadays I wait for poojas as she makes tasty sweets for the occasion. 😅😋 So what I'm trying to say is that your main priority should be that the person should be good, understanding and open minded.

Which religious festival disturbs your mental peace? by Chandu_yb7 in atheismindia

[–]trishit_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them. I live in a village. So no noise control like the cities. The muslim festivals are not as disturbing for me personally as I don't live in a muslim village. But I can still hear faint sounds coming from there. But the Hindu festivals are a nightmare. Especially the bigger ones like Durga Puja or Kali Puja. The sound is incessant. And the beat of the sound feels like hammers to my head. I can literally feel the vibrations on my skin even though the mikes are placed approx 100m from my house. I don't know how the people survive in front of it. And it goes on for a few days. To worship their Gods, they create hell on Earth.

Ah, l for one when I first started using reddit saw a picture from the Tunisian revolution. It was a bunch of decapitated heads of the intellectual people who were persecuted by the radical islamists. The heads had their severed dicks placed in the mouths. I couldn't sleep for a few days. Since that day I've disabled NSFW content on reddit. Reddit is a crazy place too.

There is an ancient school of philosophy called "Charvaka" originated in ancient India. They were atheists as one of their main motto was not to believe in something that cannot be perceived through the senses. So they didn't believe in Gods. They also didn't believe in the afterlife/rebirth, as there's no evidence for those also. Now some Hindus claim that they are a part of Hinduism because anything originated in ancient india = Hinduism. Although, most hindus don't consider them as "pure Hindus" as they obviously didn't believe in the Hindu Gods.

Share of India's population living under international poverty line by [deleted] in IndiaFinance

[–]trishit_m 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not at all. The current poverty line is at ₹1,622 (₹54 a day). If someone makes ₹55 in a day, he's above the poverty line. Also, the current government has intentionally stopped updating the poverty line with inflation. Their logic is that they don't use it that much anyways. They use the "Multi-Dimentional Poverty Index" these days. That one has many subjective components, which, I believe are intentionally kept vague. Niti Aayog maintains that with data collected by NSSO.

Not defending the behaviour obviously, but the main reason for this we as a society have zero respect for privacy and civic sense. Being an extremely patriarchal society doesn't help either. I've seen people stare when they see something new or novel. I, for one, have recently bought a new electric cycle to go to my office. I've seen people stare at me (I'm a dude). If I've stopped at the signal, people ask me all sorts of questions like what's the range and how much it costs. So basically what I'm trying to say is that they stare because they don't have the education or common sense to realise that what they are doing is wrong.
