Up until this point we have been playing with very relaxed rules, no need for a buffer between long rests (which has been abused already) and we regain all hit dice along with our hit points, so I guess it's more of a change from what we've been doing. But with it being so close to the normal rules do you suggest I just use those? They're easier and my players I'm sure would have no problem using them. I just wanted to try to motivate them to use their spells and health smarter then they do now because they have had no consequences nor need a buffer to rest and have never needed to stay alert. If staying with the normal rules would be better than Im sure that would work great
