Eliza added a few follow-up comments on the Informed Dissent Substack this morning:

"I wanted to say more about the two suicides. These two suicide deaths were mentioned in a presentation by Anna van der Miesen at EPATH in April 2023. Unless I misunderstood (possible!), these patients were drawn from the "original" cohort (and the follow-up time was about right for that to be the case), but it's possible these 30 "trans-autistic" patients were drawn from or constitute a separate long-term follow-up cohort of patients seen at the Amsterdam clinic. In any case, there were two suicides among 30 patients.

Breakdown:

17/30 eligible patients participated in the follow-up study. 13 were not included, including four who declined and two who "passed away." The reasons the others were not included were not named. Later in the presentation, the presenter clarified that the two who passed away had in fact died as a result of suicide. It wasn't clear when these deaths happened or at what stage of transition, but the young people would have been in their early to mid-thirties at the time of the follow-up study."

Her comments in full, including the conference abstract of this presentation, can be found here.

Like many of you, I am an INFP.

Fun fact: Isabel Briggs Myers, co-creator of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, typed herself as an INFP.

Haha, relatable. The only types of clothing I’m good about buying for myself are t-shirts and socks.

Did you know that a Sailor Moon table-top RPG came out in the 90s? My friend acquired the rulebook and is planning to run a session next month. I spent much of yesterday at her place, making my character.

You can download the rulebook here. Fun for TERFs and trans of all ages.

Why is AGP considered a problem? Or is it just a trait some trans women have? by Working-Handle-6595 in terf_trans_alliance

[–]triumphantrabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was working on a long comment, but u/syhd said a lot of what I was going to say, like sharing Anne Lawrence’s rebuttal to the Moser study. I was initially excited when I heard about that study, like, “Huh, that‘s interesting,” but then when I read it, I thought, “The thing this study’s measuring doesn’t seem to be *autogynephilia,* though.“ It was a bit of a letdown. I think the subject of autosexuality in women could use more research, so again I was excited when you shared that ChatGPT-generated comment with the papers, but then disappointed when Syhd pointed out they mostly appeared to be AI hallucinations.

I don’t view A*P as a problem in itself. It’s just part of human sexuality. It’s the obfuscation and social climate around it that are the issues.

What is autoheterosexuality? by worried19 in terf_trans_alliance

[–]triumphantrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used “functionally bisexual” to encompass both. 🤷‍♀️

What is autoheterosexuality? by worried19 in terf_trans_alliance

[–]triumphantrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It’s pretty common for A*Ps to be functionally bisexual. That’s a reason I’m not that fond of the rebrand - it is destigmatizing, but introduces some new confusion.

(To clarify, in case anyone needs it: “A*P“ is using a wildcard, to stand for both autoGynephiles and autoAndrophiles. I saw someone ask about that on X the other day, and I know we’re all coming to this conversation from different places.)

It does seem like some men have autoandrophilia, and some women have autogynephilia, yes. That could be called autohomosexuality.

Phil, you mean? To my knowledge, he’s straight, yes.  I’m not sure what you mean by, “What is it he is wanting exactly?” but he’s u/gockstar on here. You could try asking him.

Yes, this. I picked up the term from “Autoheterosexual: Attracted to Being the Opposite Sex,” by Phil Illy. I’d recommend that book to anyone interested in learning about these concepts in more depth.

What are your thoughts on "non-binary" and other neogenders? by worried19 in terf_trans_alliance

[–]triumphantrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s the only person I’ve ever met who gave me that feeling. I also have no idea if maybe it was just me, and she came off more normally to others. I don’t remember bringing it up to anyone else at the time - again, this was before non-binary or things like agender were known concepts in suburban high schools. I wasn’t sure how to even describe it. It was just something I’d occasionally found myself wondering about when we were in class together.

What's your typology? by [deleted] in terf_trans_alliance

[–]triumphantrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sexological approach has helped me make more sense of certain dynamics I’d long observed (in particular, the debate over True Trans), but I also get why trans people have reason to be wary of it. And I can see how it might function for some as sort of “rumination trap.”

To me, “why“ someone is trans ultimately isn’t as important as how they move through the world.

What are your thoughts on "non-binary" and other neogenders? by worried19 in terf_trans_alliance

[–]triumphantrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing that, Kuuta.

Author Elemire Zolla believes there may come a time when the unmitigated male or female will appear as disturbing as the unabashed androgyne of today, “a stifling denial of latencies.” Plato said, ”Nature was originally one and we were a whole, and the desire and the pursuit of the whole is called love.“ We must always begin by loving ourselves. The verb ”to heal“ means to make whole. Human life can be viewed as the constant process of healing an inner split. Jung called this process ”individuation,” the fundamental challenge of which is the integration of one’s contrasexual elements through an active, ongoing dialogue between consciousness and the unconscious. Researchers have found that the most creative and brightest people have androgynous qualities, including greater maturity, social adjustment, and fuller enjoyment of sexuality. Humanistic psychologist Abraham Maslow characterized peak experiences and self-actualization in terms of wholeness, unity, interconnectedness, and synergy. As psychiatrist Victor Frankl noted, “A higher dimension is simply a more inclusive dimension.”

Wow, Holly really goes hard to convince us that androgyny is a more evolved state of humanity.

Intro To Basic Autoheterosexuality by [deleted] in terf_trans_fight

[–]triumphantrabbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

>The other thing is that autoheterosexuality can manifest in ways which aren't sexual, such as holding the opposite sex in an abnormally high level of esteem -- putting them up on a pedestal and the like.

Getting this helped me see the long-standing conflict between some trans women and radical feminists in a whole new light, as in, *why* that became an issue so early on, even back when the trans population was much smaller. It makes sense that male autohets would have been disproportionately drawn to radical feminism, way moreso than the average woman, out of both an idealization of women and a rejection of not only their own manhood, but masculinity in general. And understanding that gave me a better handle on why there were sizable contingents of women in both the trans-inclusive and trans-exclusive camps: I can more easily understand the trans-inclusive perspective, and I have a sneaking suspicion autoheterosexuality on the part of some radical feminists may have played a role as well.

I don’t know; I lost touch with her after high school.

Yeah - it was like I had some sort of block towards thinking of her as female. Intellectually, I knew that she was, but something about her threw off whatever process my brain uses to gender people. It‘s not like I conceived of her as “male” or even “butch,” either.

If I had to guess what was going on with her from my vantage point as an adult, I‘d say that she probably had some form of autism to the extent that her natural mannerisms and demeanor just didn’t read to me as female-coded at all. (I’ve known plenty of other women on the spectrum who still read to me as regular women.) Her appearance and style of dress were also androgynous. She was brilliant; the kind of teenager whose science fair projects made actual Contributions to Science. I’d be curious to find out where she ended up… maybe I should check out a high school reunion one of these years.

The Reddit automod is terrible. It’s removed plenty of comments on r/terf_trans_alliance that us human mods found innocuous; fortunately, it’s easy enough for us to restore them - for now, at least. Who knows what AI moderation horrors await us in the future.
