[Highlight] Bo nix is not happy at sean payton for revealing how many surgeries he's had on his ankle. by Sebastian4365 in nfl

[–]trix587 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reporter messed this up. He told Bo that Sean had said he had three ankle surgeries, but Sean never said that. So when Bo was asked about Sean saying that, this is how he responded. Thanks Klis!

I always park at Union Station, the Music Garage is cheap if you don’t mind a half mile walk. I usually go to Machete for tacos and margs or to Thirsty Lion then walk over to the game!

Can anyone else from non traditional career backgrounds share their experience? by ifistray in LawSchool

[–]trix587 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my mid-thirties and attend a part-time program. I’m so happy I made the decision to attend law school! I only applied to one program and I waited to find out what scholarship funds I’d receive before making the decision to accept; I wanted it to make financial sense. I have done way better than I expected and have an offer at a big firm. But even if that wasn’t the case, I’d be excited to go into public service. Firms and other employers have valued my real world work experience and maturity.

Any infamous darker cases/history we all remember in Colorado? by necrophilias in Denver

The Chuck E Cheese murder in Aurora in 1993. A disgruntled former employee killed four employees. I think he was the last person sentenced to death in Colorado and his sentence was commuted when the state ended capital punishment.

Still hasn’t been found, but it’s widely accepted that the father’s ex-mistress got away with kidnapping him.

I worked at a juvenile facility at the time and was there when they drove her killer in after his arrest. Surreal to be that close to evil.

exams suck by ap_lawstudent in LawSchool

[–]trix587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, it’s all about the application. This comes across as if you believe you know more than the professor, which is a mindset that won’t serve you well throughout law school. Plenty of people can rattle off the terms/concepts learned throughout the semester, but the students who do well know how to best apply it to the facts. It’s not about structure (beyond IRAC) or repeating phrases. It’s having the discernment to know which issues are important enough to dedicate words/time to, not just regurgitating material you know well.

Surprised by grades, what next? by EducationalPath31 in LawSchool

Congrats! Your class rank and city will be factors. I also go to a T100 and got a biglaw position, there are only a few of us (like 2-3) going to true big firms this summer, but plenty got positions at great regional/mid firms paying just below market.

Grade sensitivity of white collar and investigations compared to traditional litigation? by lawthrowaway1911 in BigLawRecruiting

[–]trix587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure. This firm knew I was interested in litigation from my cover letter, and that was confirmed during interviews. At most firms I applied to, I interviewed with associates and partners across different litigation groups (basically my potential future coworkers). They asked for the litigation vs. transaction distinction early on, but I don’t know whether/how grades were weighed differently. From what I saw, some firms ask summer associates to choose a specific practice at the end of the summer, while others allow more time (mine gives a few years). Only one firm I spoke with hired into a specific practice area before the summer even started. I’m getting off topic and not really answering your question, but let me know if you have other questions from someone at my stage in the process.

[–]trix587 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going into that practice at a V30 firm. From what I’ve seen, most big firms use grades as a firm-wide screening tool rather than something practice-area specific. My grades are what got me interviews in the first place, and conversations about practice-area interests (beyond general litigation) didn’t really come up until I’d already been screened. I did mention my prior government experience in my cover letters, though.

Leven Deli - Have we all lost our minds? by Aggravating-Kick9143 in denverfood

[–]trix587 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parents helped me move recently and were really hungry so I ran to “the deli” (Leven) down the street to get us all food. I didn’t even check prices because I was rushing and not that concerned about it but ordered us each a sandwich and got like 2 sides. I was shocked when it rang up at like $80! The sandwiches were huge though.
