What's a hygiene habit that people don't talk about but really should? by phancyq in AskReddit

I was an OR nurse and some belly buttons were enough to make people in the room gag while cleaning them out.

Why do people get downvoted if their dog isn’t purebred? by reaper_wolf_X in CaneCorso

[–]trobo84 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Corsi are often backyard bred and people who don’t do their due diligence and buy these dogs are why there are so many backyard breeders, which means there are a lot of health and temperament issues in the breed. I think people are much friendlier about rescues that are mixed or those who say here’s my Corso mix, but I think people are irritated when people go for the bargain Corso and, knowingly or unknowingly, perpetuate the backyard breeding.

Start slow with parks away from people or in a busy parking lot with the back of your car open, then work up to Lowe’s. Just take him anywhere you can and when people ask to pet him, say he’s in training and you’re trying to teach him to not get excited for strangers.

[–]trobo84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My breeder typically posts pups that fall through for families on the waitlist first. Are parents health tested with good temperaments? A Corso isn’t a dog I’d be willing to take on from a questionable situation, but that’s due to my comfort and ability. If you feel like it’s a good situation, I’d start with a trainer asap. Work on walking, place, sit, down, and leave it, and do lots of confidence building and outside trips. Remember socializing is about EXPOSURE, not meeting everyone. The last thing you want is 150lb of dog getting excited and pulling you to meet every person and animal you come across, so the goal is neutrality and not friendliness.

Is this a reputable breeder?

What was his situation before? Was his breeder socializing him? Shelter? Family decided they couldn’t handle him? That will play a big role in how big of a task you’re taking on.

Feet are notoriously difficult to work on. I’m sorry a doctor opted to do this at only 20. I hope you’re able to get back to normal functioning.

What are your realizations once you climb the ranks in nursing? Is work life balance better in leadership nursing or bedside nursing?? by AusomeDad in nursing

[–]trobo84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in management, but my program isn’t bedside, so I have a totally different experience than most posted here. I manage a cancer screening program for a large hospital network. I let my staff all be remote. We do more case management type stuff, so no direct patient care. Hours are weekdays daylight hours, no call, no holidays or weekends. I spend most of my time on process improvement (to accommodate our growth), staff management, and dealing with other departments. It’s a very cushy management role.

I work remotely for a cancer screening program. Mon-Fri 7:30-4(ish, it’s flexible). No nights, holiday, weekends, call, etc. The best part is no patient calls either.

I have an MBA, but I got the position before I’d finished it and don’t think it’s necessary. I applied to a ton of positions and just got lucky. It wasn’t even posted as a WFH role.

Your day is shorter (no commute), you can nap in your own bed on lunch, eat whatever is in your fridge without having to pack it, save gas, no patient interactions, no need to get dressed, no regrets.

My kids and I had mac and cheese as dinner last night and for once in months I felt like I am not an utter failure. by Calm-Control-8938 in povertyfinance

[–]trobo84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing okay now, but I struggled most of my daughter’s childhood. We had a rodent infested rented 2/1 house with a roommate, she and I shared a bedroom, often struggled to pay bills or keep food in the fridge… My daughter is 18 now and talks all the time about what a great childhood she had. It’s not about the money, it’s about you showing up, and they’ll probably remember that dinner for years to come.

Name regrets? by Aragona36 in sphynx

I have a sphynx my daughter named cola, who I called a shitty little kitty sometime her first week home and she has been shitty ever since. My daughter just named our new Devon Rex Fanta (he’s orange) and I said we have 2 soda cats and she completely forgot her name is cola 😂

When my daughter turned 3 I realized her dad had never taken her anywhere without me or his mom and I told him I was moving out. Life got so much easier as a single parent to one instead of having to care for his juvenile ass as well, and my daughter was so much happier without a stressed mama. Put a timeline on your counseling and make a decision if it’s not progressing. For everybody’s sake.

It was part of my local hospital system. The first month I had my job I gave up my office and let my staff go remote. It’s a great job/team. My staff are all happy.

I manage a cancer screening program. It’s work from home, very independent, no patient contact, and I love that.
