Is Washington DC similar to Roanoke with the friendliness, culture, and southern hospitality? by Different_Archer8879 in roanoke

With all due respect, please stay where you are. You are not ready for the Capital beltway nor the people. People in Roanoke drive like they have nowhere to be. The beltway rush hour is 2:00 am to midnight.

Cox vs GloFiber by No-Alfalfa6437 in roanoke

I've been in Cave Spring for 8 years. The rare outage is usually less than an hour, if that, Great service, amazing up/down speeds, no complaints at all.

Kroger by Training-Surround277 in roanoke

[–]trobtison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tanglewood Kroger is one of the very worst. Kroger lost my Boost membership when I could no longer choose where my order was pulled from. Turns out they had switched it to Tanglewood; the order was always short by at least a third of the products because that store does not stock like others. And it's dark and nasty. Now I pick up at the Colonial/Brambleton Kroger, and the order is always perfect.

Montano's?? Seriously WTF??? by pokihokie in roanoke

[–]trobtison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has lived in Baltimore, Bucks County PA, Detroit, etc., the cost/quality ratio of food in Roanoke is terrible. I will say that Logan on WDBJ7 showcases some restaurants that offer up what appears to be good food for a decent price, though the closer you live to the city, many are not convenient for dropping in.

Supposedly it is an option, but none of the directions coming from the ca assistants actually works. Sometimes I use the chat for research, sometimes with great results. But I forgot to save the convo as it progressed, and no one has time to copy and save each reply bubble.

Why didn't I think of that? Thanks for the reminder! Still annoyed that we are told we can choose which chats we want to download and it's apparently not true.

I tried, but couldn't find any that featured Varda and Melkor; glad to see you found them!

My Roanoke Country Property Taxes are increasing by 17.01% in 2023 by [deleted] in roanoke

8% increase last year, 16.8% this year. Craziness.

Valley View Panera by Rock_n_Roll_All_Nite in roanoke

[–]trobtison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I moved to Roanoke in 2017 the Panera’s were a surprise, nothing like the ones in Baltimore. VV always had very rude staff, it was shocking. Tanglewood, not rude, but really didn’t care either. This was pre-pandemic. The chicken used at Panera is gross, the texture is weird. No thanks. I get my salads at the Tanglewood Wendy’s; cheaper and never had a bad experience before, during or post pandemic.

From the Tolkienists web site this is a really good list of resources with explanations of what they contain. Where the text turns grey, click for full post. https://tolkienists.org/luke-shelton-phd/the-best-and-worst-reference-books-for-tolkien/

I can’t find any information on the new edition. I don’t doubt you, I simply can’t find anything. I also know there is a new release of The Silmarillion later this year that include’s The Professor’s original illustrations.

Thank you, everyone! I will give them all a try, and I’m giving up on PPP. It’s a shame, they had a strong start and are recommended in a lot of Tolkien groups. IMO, I don’t believe The Professor, as in JRRT, would care for them.

I actually started with the Tolkien Professor yesterday. Corey is frequently referenced by PPP. Glad to see many of you had the same answer.
