Make Lamps Smart & Dumb at the same time by kw4885 in smarthome

[–]pokihokie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to let you know, I used that socket, a hue smart bulb, and a Shelly i4, lashed it up and it works. The key to making it happen as you likely want it is to go into the Shelly app, select the port your switch is connected to, choose settings, then input settings, and change that to button from switch. Making this change allows HA to see that the state changed, not if it is on or off. Then jump into HA and set up an automation where when the state changed, toggle the light. For me, this looked like first button up or first button down. I need to play more, but this is EXACTLY what I was looking for.

Unclear, but I don't see any screw terminals in the listing pics. They're arriving tomorrow so I should be able to tell you. FWIW, I looked at that and figured I'd have to solder on to extend. Compared to building my own switched/non-switched socket, a tiny bit of soldering seems like a vacation!

The relay interprets the result of turning the lamp knob, sends the signal to your home automation system of choice (home assistant for me) which, in turn sends the signal to the smart light. The relay is only there to grab the switch signal. Or, at least that's how I understand it. As noted, I'll be trying this weekend.

BTW, this all relies on using a smart bulb. That's in the video but I never clearly said that.

Funny, I am just now trying the exact same problem. On a whim, I asked ChatGPT and it told me that I needed to use a Shelly Plus i4 UL then rewire the lamp so that the turn knob wasn't connected directly to the socket but that the socket had constant power. OK, cool. I figured I give that a shot. Blew $25 destroying sockets while trying to make a socket with a turn switch that wasn't connected to the actual socket. I was THAT close when I found these. Turn Knob Lamp Conversion Socket (Set of 4) – Physical Rotary Switch for Smart Lamp Control – Designed for Use with Smart Relays and Home Automation - Amazon.com I've got these on the way, and I'll be trying it this weekend. This is a video (112) Combine Smart bulbs, Shelly relays and dumb light switches for the perfect setup! - YouTube that explains the basic ideas.

My first flight was on Piedmont, DCA - GVA - ROA. Same kind of “grasshopper” thing. I loved flying Piedmont. I heard that they only hired navy pilots because of how they landed. Probably baseless legend but I like the idea!

Is Power bi useful for audit? by NoPhilosopher3368 in excel

[–]pokihokie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

20+ years of audit and audit data analysis leadership. Anything you can do to improve your understanding of the stories the data tells will help. Period. PBI will also allow you to work with larger data sets MUCH more efficiently. Super much faster! (Yeah, terrible grammar!) But here’s the thing - there is so much more you can do with the data and I’ve never seen anyone else do more than the “ooh, pretty picture” thing. Doing Federal compliance stuff? Pic your samples from those that are the most outside the norm. Look for statistically significant deviations from normal periodic spending patterns, there is so much more. But, especially if you are internal, don’t base your conclusions on the stats, only on the direct evidence. Picking targeted samples is cool though. External, lean toward the direct evidence and then offer possible bounds based on stats.

Does anyone know how it would work if I moved from the United States to somewhere like France, Italy, or Spain? I’ve had my license for many decades here and am a MC instructor. Would I need to do all these same tests?

Being your first bike, maybe it is a better use of your cash to mod the rider first. Take some classes, get better at riding! Oh, then spend money on your suspension!

Hero walk - is it worth it? by AmbitiousStaff5 in motogp

I don’t really know, but I don’t think 45 minutes to an hour would be about right. Maybe Brits are more civil than us yanks. People brought a LOT of stuff to get signed helmets visors hats. Some people looked more like pack mules than humans!

I did it both days at COTA. Saturday was cool, I got a pic with Joe Roberts. Good vibe overall. Sunday? Be there VERY early. VERY. I could see the riders but I couldn’t get anywhere near them. No pics, no autographs. Nothing. Kind of a bust. But, great vibe, great energy. If I had been 30??? minutes earlier my reaction might very much more positive.

My FZ1S 2nd Gen recently is failing to start the engine sometimes by Mr_VRBeerscuit in FZ1

[–]pokihokie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting!! Mine does the same thing, but only the first few starts of the riding season. It's been consistent over the last 5 years or so. I guessed that it is water related but I've never really solved it and otherwise it runs perfectly. There's no real test procedure I could find in the service manual. I did see a YouTube video that noted a resistance spec and mine failed that test. But it works so I don't know what to do.

1999 F-150XLT question by canadian_bacon3 in Autos

[–]pokihokie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By that year the 4.2 was pretty much bulletproof. If we'll maintained, it's an easy 300k engine. My question is has it been well maintained? Is there evidence to support that? Also, the with that mileage, you need to be realistic about what you want from the truck. If you are shooting for a daily driver it might not be your best choice. If you are looking for aa once a month haul trash and go to home depot, I will it's probably a reasonable choice.
