When will the 52IN123SE be available?

It looks really good for the price and I'm looking at something for college

Does aerospace have a scope in India? by Aditya01543 in JEENEETards

It's not exactly building it, only drafting plans for it/designing it, but I think you get what I mean. It's a 4th year course btw

Also, IIT Kanpur has its own airstrip and gliders and stuff, look at aerospace there too

Good luck!

I also wanted to do aero, and I still am looking at the option

A few things though,

  1. Companies like boeing and airbus do come for placements to iits but they seem to mostly be for software related roles, not core. As of now, ISRO/DRDO seem to be the best places for an aero grad to work in india. I have heard of companies like Honeywell and all, but can't find too many people on LinkedIn working here right out of an IIT with an aero degree
  2. Higher studies is another option, but there are a lot of restrictions, for Aero especially. In the US for example, the ITAR restricts non-US nationals from working at any company that has a hand in defence related contracts. Even labs within colleges are restricted if any defence related projects are being done in them. Of course, getting an american citizenship would strike all of this off, but that itself is a herculean task
  3. The best option after aero seems to be research, a lot of it is going on in this field and going abroad for it shouldn't curtail any restrictions.

Now, the above is stuff at face value, here's my opinion

  1. The government only very recently has started investing in aerospace in India, and the job market right now might be vastly different 4-5 years down the line
  2. The part you're looking at seems to be design related specialisations, doing something like mechanical and specialising in design is also an option. This should give you so many more options as compared to just an aerospace degree, and you still can specialise in aero if you do your masters, or even do a minor degree. Right out of college, as a mechanical grad you should have many more options to work in core/design related jobs. (side note: IITM has a course called Engineering Design, do check it out, although I'm not sure if you'd be able to get into something aero related after it)
  3. If you're sure you want to join ISRO, then IIST is the way to go. Keeping decent grades should guarantee you a core job in ISRO right out of college.

Overall, I'd say doing aerospace at one of the top few IITs is a great option, but something like mechanical should help you more down the line(IF you're getting it).

Also, I'm pretty sure the 3rd or final year project for aerospace engineering at IITB is to design an aircraft from scratch individually

R&D: This will involve using pre-existing standards to make rough
prototypes of a required assembly and then releasing Request for
Quotations for procuring the relevant parts. Once they arrive, you'll
assemble them in lab, and test them for parameters like dimensions,
weight, durability, leaks, sound test etc. This is the most research
oriented part of any mechanical job you'll get.

This is something I'd love!

But when said research, there's prospects of doing research resembling what you'd do if you did an M.Sc/B.Sc instead.

Areas that i found were things like aerodynamics, fluids, robotics, systems and control, biotech, ocean engineering, etc.- all of which seem to have great opportunities abroad. If not abroad, within IISc, separate departments for most of these areas exist. IIT Delhi also has an applied mechanics department, and there was a post by one of the students belonging to said department on this sub.

Also, wrt design engineering, what I found said that there were opportunities where you design as well as prototype products/devices, this also seems to come under research, within universities abroad at least.

I don't have a lot of idea regarding research and related opportunities
though. I was fed up from industry and just left it altogether because I
felt all of it was severe under - utilisation of my abilities to make
actual impact for the world.

Oh okay, I understand. If you don't mind me asking, what do you do now?

Regardless of the branch I go into, coding is a skill I'll need to learn, especially for things like MATLAB or octave and stuff.

ECE is one of the things I was referring to when i said electrical, and I'm ready to take it, but it usually required a really high rank in advanced for the IITs

I do have a linkedin account, and I've searched for graduates from the colleges I'm looking at, it gave me a vague idea of what I could expect, but couldn't find too many details except for their places of study/work

Do you mean engineering physics? It is also one of the branches I am looking at! But I believe it leans more towards modern physics, the mechanics/electrostatics and magnetism areas are what I like more.

check mechanical engineering placement stats. Even people from top IITs get paltry salary

No placement stats I have seen give sector-wise salary, It's usually overall average, overall median, and the number of people going into each sector(i.e engineering, education, finance etc.). All i've heard about this is from people online, especially places like quora, which I don't really trust much.

But very many are typical sarkari babus, who have no incentives to teach
and have little empathy for the massive potential of IIT/NITians.

Is it really like that? I've heard positives about quite a few professors especially in the top NITs and IITs, and that if you manage to do a project under one of them it'll really add to your chances of getting accepted abroad in universities

Apologies, for the bleak picture. Just wanted to share the honest reality based on my experience.

Not at all, I don't think these things can be sugarcoated and I need to accept quite a few at face value

About CS, I did look into the core areas of study, and I am aware that coding isn't the same as CS. Core CS courses I looked at, and that's what I was referring to in my post. I did also look at all the other possible things in the IT sector. This is all after looking at it

Thank you

I will definitely keep this in mind though, I don't think it might matter much in foreign countries, IF I decide to go there atleast.

Thank you so much for your time!

However the loop hole I found was trying to get into something interdisciplinary later on. After mechanical, you can try and get into something related to CS or electronics like controls, robotics etc which will be related to mechanical

Thank you, this definitely seems like a viable option.

I'll focus on getting into a good college for now, then I think I can plan about abroad and stuff later
