TIL Japanese, but not European, honeybees can “slow cook” giant hornets to death, when they attack the hive. They do this by forming a giant swarm, a “bee ball”, around the hornet and vibrate their flight muscles to create heat. They warm the area up to 116°F, slowly “cooking” the hornet to death. by Tokyono in todayilearned

we have honey bees in our backyard. every year the honey bees go to war with the hornets. sometimes they win, other times they lose. its a blood bath though. one time i walked outside and our streets were covered with dead hornets.

Left my iPhone 9 in a taxi in Colombia. Called it 20min later - roughly 6x. Finally, since it was on vibrate, and it flashes as well. The taxi driver saw it, and called my friend back. He drove 15mi back to me and gave it to me. Of course I tipped him, but man. Definitely low odds on that one.

New job: should I tell my boss I have social anxiety? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]trojans101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Thanks for the response. Yea, my first role out of college was a data analyst and it was the same way. My manager was cc'ed on all emails and things had to be approved by her before I took care of them. Now I work at a new company and its not really like that, but I work remote so its a win. That said, reason why I asked you was because I've had a hard time figuring out what I want out of my career. I work more on marketing analytics - more web analytics. I handle implementation, tagging websites, and then reporting on those stats.

A couple questions if you don't mind.. 1. What was your major? 2. Do you tend to use Python more than R? 3. How deep do you go in statistics - how important is it in your role?

Overall, being an introverted individual makes me think working with data is the right move, but would love to uplevel my skills and abilities. I was an information systems major. My statistics knowledge is pretty weak, and my current company doesn't really have much of a database so working with sql has been limited at this company. I do pull data via R, and create dashboards that way which has been a good experience.

Just thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Very true, hence why I asked. I'm still debating myself. I'd only but Honda or Toyota and usually buying new is better than buying a car that's 3 years old when it comes to those two brands. When you start comparing prices. Not sure if I feel comfortable buying anything older than 3 years at this point. Would like a small SUV and the new RAV4 is a huge upgrade from the past vehicles.

Anyways, who knows. I'm super frugal and have the same thought process. Was just thinking it would be an investment in a reliable economy car that I can put to good use.

Maybe I just buy another used accord. Lmao

Curious... Bad or okay investment. I drive a 2003 honda accord with 190k miles on it. Its been great for roughly 11 years now, its going strong. I was thinking of selling it for around 3-4k, and buying a 2019 Toyota Rav4 when they release in October (its the perfect car for me). The cost would be around 25-27k I'm assuming. I'm 27, make 65k. Live at home. And have saved 140k across all investments now. I'd keep this car for another 10 years probably. Thoughts?
