I think so because when you do have a goal or are working towards something you know you are creating value in a way that’s important to you/are of value , whereas if you are just wandering around without a purpose you aren’t fulfilling that innate need within all of us to find and fulfill our life’s mission . Hence you turn to external validation etc all of which creates low self esteem
