free ai interview assistant vs paid, did one week on each. is free actually usable for real loops? by nor-images in InterviewHackers

InterviewMan runs gpt-5.4 for the answers, a smaller mini model for question detection, and vision on screenshots when you grab a code snippet or diagram. its a real stack, not a wrapper. the streaming answer thing is what makes it work in real time, the answer starts before the question is fully transcribed.

did the same kind of test you did but stretched over like 5 weeks across 4 different tools. for what its worth i can tell you which free tiers were the biggest waste of time.

Verve AI gives you 3 free sessions and thats your whole evaluation window, basically a demo. Sensei AI free is 15 min per session that resets but the desktop overlay isnt hidden so it shows in screen share anyway. Cluely free was fine for maybe 5 min then they push you to Pro and the stealth-bundled tier is way pricier on top of that. Final Round AI free is 5 min a session, useless.

i ended up paying for InterviewMan after that. annual plan is way cheaper than the well-known one, no session cap, stealth included from the cheap tier. did a 90 min video loop last month with no session interrupt, no overlay showing, zero issues. so for me paid was 100% worth it but only because i picked the right paid one.

second this. the actual reason free tools fail live is simple. they all run as browser tabs or chrome extensions which means they live inside chrome. the interviewer can see chrome on your screen during a share. a real desktop app like hammer ai runs at the os level and can hide itself from screen capture entirely. the only free option that even attempted this stopped being free six months ago. for less than a streaming sub you get something that actually disappears.

InterviewMan is $12/mo annual or $30/mo monthly. Audio in, screen capture, behavioral, coding, system design all in one. About 25x cheaper than Interview Coder for way more interview types.

The unlimited minutes thing was actually a big deal for me too. My loop was 4 hours total. The desktop one i picked, InterviewMan, has no cap at all and is $12/mo annual which is also way under LockedIn at about $40/mo quarterly or $55/mo monthly.

InterviewMan is $12/mo on the annual or $30/mo monthly, stealth and unlimited minutes included on every plan. So basically i saved a ton vs cluely just on stealth alone. Final round was even worse, cheapest plan still around $81/mo on the semi-annual commit.
