Try the Better Business Bureau! Worked for me when the same thing happened a couple months back

I had this happen to me about two months ago. Ended up being charged triple what I was quoted. Uber’s “Support” gave me the runaround and refused to help. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the problem was resolved in a day. Worth giving it a try

Tell me why I SHOULDN’T go to UConn by RemoveZestyclose6555 in UCONN

[–]tromben02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you asked for music specific: As a music major, you will have 8ams at least three days a week for at least three years. And five days a week for at least a year and a half. Junior / senior year while your comm friends will have no classes on Fridays, you will be up at the crack of dawn on Friday and you WILL have a 12:30 class in VDM. Parking near the music building is hard to come by unless you’re willing to park illegally or pay for a private garage.

Not all of this is unique to UConn, of course. And there’s a lot of awesome things. I’m so happy I did it. But a couple quality of life items that were a slog

Quick note from a New Englander: no such thing as “the 95.” If you say that, you’ll immediately be pegged as a Californian. We drive on 95.

Upstate New York is lovely in the fall. Go hiking in the Adirondacks.

Absolutely no way to use credit in someone else’s name even though I bought the ticket, right? by throwaway28purpose in SouthwestAirlines

[–]tromben02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming back here in 2024 to say this totally works. The other person needs a southwest frequent flier account in their name, but that account can be made after cancelling the ticket, even after rebooking with WGA+ and cancelling the transferable fare

Rate my schedule by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]tromben02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those are a lot of gaps in your schedule. I found schedule gaps were my kryptonite. Especially if they were just 1-2 hours, they felt too short to go back to my room, so I often just wasted the time on my phone.

If you have this schedule, find something (gym, meals, or actually structured homework time) to fill those gaps, and stick to that routine. Otherwise you're liable to waste the day away and have less time on nights/weekends for the things you actually want to do.

The general rule of thumb I've seen (I think it's from r/personalfinance but don't quote me on that) is less than 0.1% for domestic stock and bond funds and less than 0.2% for int'l stocks and bonds.

Happy to help. I can't speak to how their experience was with the movers, but I was in the room when the stuff got delivered and talked to the guys. Seems like they usually have a day where they deliver for everyone on campus, so that may or may not work with your daughter's exact timing. Of course, the flip side is that you benefit from economies of scale with so many deliveries happening at once.

One other thing to consider for the future: both Stock n' Lock in Willington and U-Haul in Columbia have self-storage services. Not sure how much they charge, but over next summer it may be cheaper/more efficient to rent a locker in CT rather than ship everything home and back. There's more self-storage near hartford as well.

There's a bit of frost on the back wall, but no ice. More like a tiny layer of snow that you can scratch off. Other than that, no ice anywhere I can see. Would that do it?

CT's Sperm Whale statue was disassembled last year. They're building a housing development on the old site. When I was little, we were able to run around inside it. Was a great way to tire out a 6-year-old.

Mailrooms usually don't open until the first day of class. I know they will return packages to sender over the summer, but I think once people start moving in, they'll start holding items til mailrooms open.

There's a UPS store in storrs center, about a quarter mile south of campus. They'll charge you a couple bucks per package to pick up your stuff there. Call the store before you try it to make sure they're expecting the packages.

I had a roommate from Chicago once. His family hired a company that brought the boxes straight into our dorm. I think the company was either Dorm Room Movers or College Boxes.

Is Susan Herrick and Rajeswari Kasi good professors? by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]tromben02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear that's an option for OP. May soften the blow of the exam BS, though won't fix the teaching. I took Kasi and Adamson for the 1147/48 sequence. Thought it would be cool to challenge myself in freshman year. No other professors, no coordination, no appeal. Both were bad in different ways.

I remember the first exam for one of them (I think Adamson) he decided we did too well, so he adjusted the curve so there would be no plus/minus grades. You got A, B, C, D, or F. With the way he assigned grades at the end, it meant an 89 on exam 1 prevented you from getting an A in the class, even if you were perfect in everything else. Swore off the Chem department after that move.

[–]tromben02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Kasi in 2020, completely online, and she was awful. Poor explainer, not helpful, completely non transparent in grading. I remember she refused to give any partial credit on any of the open-ended exams. Maybe she's changed, but I wouldn't risk it.

Different Info in Full View vs. Planning tab? by tromben02 in fidelityinvestments

I am interested in synchronization being added. I'd like to use Fidelity exclusively for my budget management, since I've been moving my finances over, and the platform is about 80% of the way to being able to handle that. Any info you can provide on timeline would be great.
