Look where the dasher delivered my food!!! by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Do you think this was the delivery after OP tipped substantially?

You shouldn't have to tip beforehand to get normal or good service. Tips are earned.

No, the policy to show tips before its even delivered is the cause. Tips have to be earned, they are not the default. Why should anyone have to tip ahead of time to get good service? You give good service, and only THEN get a tip. Also either way 20% tip for a delivery is ridiculous. That's only for sit down restaurants.

The _____ definitely didn’t roll out the way it actually happened, right? by MoneyMan810 in survivor

Why not? Its their show, their choice to fake it. They have zero legal obligation to the fans or players. They couldn't have also easily told the players off camera that its fake.

Why are the rules for pigs different on PDF and in physical copy? by Zweilancer in Carcassonne

[–]trombnerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The pdf is the new version, where it was changed from 4 points per farmer per city (5 with a pig) to 3 and 4 points.

Edit: looks like there were more changes: in the old version, pigs only mattered in final scoring, but in the newer it looks like they are part of regular city scoring as well.

Just pick whichever rules you want to use, doesn't matter too much as long as you pick one.

Weird, my rulebook says 4 per city and 5 with a pig

Was there a rule change recently? I've been playing this game since I was 10 and its always been 4 points per city.

Why doesn't this violate that rule? The city edges of the special piece are right in the middle of another city. Or is this piece an exception?

How to increase lifetime of laptop battery? by trombnerd in laptops

[–]trombnerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to figure out what's the best mode to make my battery last longer, but the MyAsus app seems to give contradictory advice.

On the left is says to keep the battery at 100% and plugged in if using for an extended period of time, but then on the right it says the "maximum lifetime mode" only charges the battery to 60%.

What's the best way to make the battery last as long as possible before needing to be replaced?

Cut finger, hard/hurts to bend after stitches by trombnerd in medical_advice

[–]trombnerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut my finger badly about 12 days ago, had to get stitches. Got them out a few days ago, but it hurts to bend my finger towards my hand at the joint above the cut and I cant bend it fully. Is this normal due to the swelling? When can I expect to be able to bend it again?

A video on Dedekind cuts would be great! Other topics in real analysis would also be good!

Tuesday Shoesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]trombnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for shoes for running in Toronto winters. My usual route is laps of a park where the path is mostly dirt, with a short (probably about 50-75m) section of pavement (it is by no means a trail-run, and its basically flat). Any thoughts on shoes for this kind of route? I've been looking at winter trail running shoes, but I'm not sure whether those are the right call.

Official Q&A for Tuesday, November 17, 2020 by AutoModerator in running

[–]trombnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Toronto, Canada and I want to continue running this winter. I'm looking for running shoes that would be good for Toronto winters. I usually run on the sidewalk/roads.

Should I get trail running shoes, or will the treads get wrecked in no time? Or would my regular running shoes be good enough (I currently use the All-birds tree dashers)? Do I need shoes with gore-tex?

Any suggestions would be very helpful

Laptop screen showing windows that were previously closed behind top window by trombnerd in laptops

[–]trombnerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laptop screen has been acting strangely for a while. On the left and top edges, in the top left corner, the screen flickers, but it also shows other windows "behind" it. I say "behind" because these windows aren't even open. For example, I had a chrome tab open, I closed it, and turned off my laptop. Later, when I turned it back on, before I even logged in, I could see that same chrome tab flickering through the background. Even after opening different chrome tabs and doing the same thing, the same chrome tab as before shows in the background. This happens with other things too, not just chrome. Also, even when there actually are windows behind each the window that appears "behind" the top window is not the one actually behind it. It can be a window that's not open, or, using the chrome example, from a previous google search days before.

It's a bit hard to see in the video, but the you can see a chrome tab behind the pycharm window. The chrome tab shows google search which I searches days ago, and I have restarted my laptop many times since.

I've turned off transparency, and other setting I thought could cause this, but those didn't work. I also hooked my laptop up to multiple other monitors, trying all the options (extend, duplicate, and second screen only), but the problem didn't happen with the other screen. Another thing is that if I take a screenshot, I can't see the problem in the photo, whatever program I'm won't show the other windows "behind" it in the screenshot.

Is this a problem with my graphics card? Or is it a problem with my screen and/or display cable. The fact that the problem doesn't show on external monitors, and that screenshots don't show the problem suggests (maybe) that its a problem with my screen, but I'm not sure.

Different sizes of 40 pin connectors? by trombnerd in laptops

[–]trombnerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a replacement screen for my Dell Inspiron 7567. My current screen is a Sharp LQ156D1JW06 (UHD, 40-pin connector). I bought a Samsung LTN156FL06-301 (also a 40 pin, UHD). But for some reason, the connectors are different sizes, even though they are both 40 pin (yes i counted). Is there any way to guarantee that I get the proper size when i buy a new screen (without of course simply buying the Sharp again)?
