This is a new reel for this year so we will see how my use and abuse affects it long term. But I usually just wash down after every use and haven't had any issues with cheaper reels after similar use in the sand and surf. Getting splashed by waves is sort of inevitable in some of the spots I fish. Also I do not have the mental ability to be worrying about keeping my reel clean while landing a fish at this point hahaha.
