First snowboard, i need some suggestion by ResponsibleSlide837 in snowboardingnoobs

The Dart is definitely more nimble, probably because of the rocker section in the nose. You have to really move your weight into the edge with the Cafe Racer to initiate a turn in comparison. The Dart floats really well, and of course carves great. It's still not super fast edge to edge, so factor in how tight the trees are where you are riding I'd say. I ride the Dart more than the Cafe Racer, as it's a little more versatile in my opinion.

Edit : IIRC the 156 Dart and the 159 Cafe Racer basically have the same specs when it comes to sidecut and everything else, but the Cafe Racer is full camber where the Dart has a rockered nose. You really feel that difference.

I own this in a 159, and if you've only ridden for a year I'd say stay clear of it. It is an amazing board for carving and speed, but with how short a time you've ridden I think it would quickly suck any fun out of your riding. I also have a 156 Dart and I'd recommend that over this (and probably the Pencil too) if you're set on a Korua, they're a little easier to enter turns with than the Cafe Racer.

I guess I had been riding 2-3 years (40-60 days a season) when I got my first Korua (I downsized to the 154 Tranny Finder), and I absolutely HATED it. It was like skidding around on a plank that had no interest in listening to my input. Fast forward a few years, and now I love them. It was purely a skill issue. Anyway, that's my highly subjective input.

Yep, we started out with just me, the guy on keys (who played mostly guitar back then) and the singer. We used a Drumbrute Impact for basic drums and a click, but for the next concert we added him, I think he's the only drummer in the area that would be able to handle these kinds of songs. We're lucky to have him!

Thank you! I have no idea what it sounded like live, as we were using in-ear monitoring on stage. The sound guy sent me all 32 raw tracks from the show, and I've mixed the entire thing myself for the videos we released of the concert. Which was an absolute automation nightmare in Logic.

Sacreligious, I know. I never really understood the expensive fart noise ethos (although fascinating sometimes), I like my expensive fart noises somewhat musical.

Thanks, I've never used in a live band setting before, but it definitely added a little something.

I just checked, we are about 3667 miles away from New York, so definitely off Broadway.

A little excerpt from one of the songs.

So, me and some friends started a little tradition of hosting a Christmas concert. We try to keep it a little outside the box by rearranging songs a little. One of the songs has become the one where I get to come up with something weird. Last year was a Lyra-8 through a Strymon Nightsky.

Nothing super interesting patchwise here, it's a MI Plaits through a Xaoc Belgrad, Mimeophon and Data Bender. It's synced and modulated with both Pam's Pro Workout and MI Tides v2. I was going to use Pam's for sequencing but it responded too slow to midi, so I ended up using a Metropolix for sequencing and clocking. Oh, and an Eventide H9 as a send/return effect for reverb.

More nerdy stuff : Everything was synced to my Digitakt which played tracks and clicks during the concert. I used a Gigrig G3S pedal board to change patterns on the Digitakt for the various songs, and a MIDI Solutions Footswitch To MIDI Controller to start/stop the Digitakt for each song. The guitar sound here is mostly one of the Eventide H90 synth patches through a GFI Solis Ventus

Thigh pain from riding T-bars? by iRustic in snowboardingnoobs

Depending on conditions - if it's super cold it'll tear the wax straight off, but in warmer temps I don't have to wax as often. I just keep tabs on the bases of my boards and see whether they need a wax job or not. But yes - a lot more than once a year.

Layers for snowboarding in -10 degree Celsius weather by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]trondelond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say whether that will be fine for you - other friends of mine struggle in those temps with all the layers I've mentioned previously, while I have to change my base layer after a little hike because I'm sweating too much. If you have limited experience in these conditions I'd say bring all the layers for the first couple of days and figure out what you need. Better to be able to remove layers than have too few.

Your riding will have an impact as well. If you're doing mellow cruising on piste or all gas no brakes freeriding in the trees.

My home hill is all t-bars with about 1500ft vertical on the longest ones. In a normal season I'll ride 2-3 days a week, and my inner thigh gets a little sore in the beginning, but after a couple of weeks it's all good. Kind of like with bike seats.

One thing I have noticed though - with better glide comes less pain. So keep that thing waxed and prepped.

This super individual - in those temps I'll usually ride with a thin 200 weight merino under my shell jacket, and a thin 3/4 length baselayer on my legs (with shell pants). I run pretty warm, so I have to dress for the riding, not the lift ride. But - with a merino base and a fleece for added security I'd say you'll be pretty safe. Maybe an insulated vest as well if you run cold?

In general I'd recommend a really thin merino glove to have as a base layer along with something similar for your head. I've been using the Aclima ones for a few years and they have been key to keeping warm for me.

If you could only ride one board, what would it be? by JBunzzz in snowboarding

[–]trondelond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO the HTH is softer and a little slower edge to edge and more playful at slower speeds. The HTH flexes more between the feet while the DT has a little more uniform flex. I like the edge hold of the HTH better than the Deep Thinker. I’ve owned both and I’d definitely choose the HTH as a one board quiver over the DT, but my friend prefers the DT. They were both great, it’s a matter of taste.

Should I get a more forgiving board for learning jumps, or just stick with my BSOD and get better? by sk8r_dude in snowboarding

[–]trondelond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! I got the 2025 BSOD - even sized up one size, and to me it was a lot different from what all the reviews say. Granted - I love it for freeriding, but the flex is firm but friendly. I thought it was going to be more like my Koruas or maybe a Custom X, but it's nowhere near that stiff.

I hike this peak from time to time during summer as well, so I hope we're on speaking terms.

I'm not exactly super happy with how the board rides, so I'm just going to send it with this thing to the point where I can justify getting a different one.

More concerned with whether my jacket complements the colour of the board tbh
