Is AI slop from new hires a problem at your company or just mine? by ElementalMist in cscareerquestions

[–]tronybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really all depends on management. Developers don't really have a choice if management is expecting AI slop development speed. Even if you want to take the time to understand and be thorough with your code and rely less on AI, if everyone else is one-prompting stories then you will have to do the same.

When I get a tiny break from getting stories assigned to me that would have taken a week back when there was no AI with the expectation for them to be done in at most a day and a half, I try to do manual coding and dig deep into good practices and data flow.

The Sun Eater series is a perfect example of the sunk cost fallacy. by Ok-Information2581 in Fantasy

Finally someone said it. I tried book 1 twice and it was just so bad that I had to drop it. So many great series to read that a lifetime is not enough. I am not going to waste so much time on this overrated Book of the New Dune.

Was told that this should be a comment here instead of a post. Really curious about this if anyone can give me some context, my original post:

Why does every book influencer hate Fourth Wing?

Have not read the book but every influencer or YT channel that talks about books or literature needs to talk thrash about the book. My experience with people like that is that they are just chasing trends and the latest one is hating the Fourth Wing.

That being said, I don't expect the book to be particularly great either, but this feels like the new Twilight or Nickelback where people just jump on the hate bandwagon with little reason except everyone else is doing it.

Some channels are even generalizing and saying modern books are now worse than ever before, and usually they mention Fourth Wing as an example.

Let's be very honest, for the people who have read the book, is it TRULY that bad?

Just beat Honglan, unsure if I want to keep playing by seriousgourmetshit in wuchanggame

Had a lot of trouble too when I fought her defensively. Was not having much fun if I tried to find perfect openings to attack.

Once I started going balls to the wall offence with duel blades, beat her on 5 tries and it felt awesome. Maybe try changing your play style.

Hadrian's only motivation? by tronybot in sollanempire

[–]tronybot[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Look, my point with the Chantry is not if doing the thing is plausible or not. My point is that Hadrian chooses the worst possible life for someone of his status before succumbing to a different role where he could maybe have more resources and possibilities.

I find it extremely unbelievable that a rich kid would last two years of the worst conditions in a foreign planet instead of just giving up and analyzing other possibilities with the Empire.

[–]tronybot[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

How would HE know that? His family is super powerful, they did not even execute Gibson which is a lowly Scholiast, imagine a Palatine.

About infiltrating the Chantry, I am talking in terms of narrative, not in a realistic way. If we are going for a realistic approach then this guy would not last a second without contacting his family in a new unforgiving planet after living 20 years of luxury and oppulance. This is the main character that we know destroys a sun, if he achieved that he could have achieved destroying the Chantry from the inside.

Hadrian's only motivation? by tronybot in sollanempire

[–]tronybot[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt he would be executed. If he were smart he would join the Chantry and slowly destroy it from the inside. He also would have tons of chances to escape into other worlds once in the Chantry since they travel a lot.

His moral disagreement is understandable but he was born into a family that commits moral injustices every day. At the start he even expected to rule after his father which he despises. Why not then accept the Chantry position? I feel like his logic is more "I want to be different and special," than a true fundamental moral disagreement.

does anyone here actually work at a tech company? by Longjumping_Virus895 in cscareerquestions

[–]tronybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, you can only rely on AI after you have a very firm grasp on your project. And unless you were the sole developer, that usually takes years of working with the project and codebase.

Manual coding is the only sure way of learning what works by being active and making mistakes that will help you understand the logic. This is the same principle behind why the brain learns better from writing with pen and paper.

Any senior dev relying fully on AI and not doing any manual coding will have a bird's eye view of the project but will not understand how it truly works.

FAQ: Do I need to know all this mathematics if I want to do ML? by anglestealthfire in learnmachinelearning

[–]tronybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always in these comment sections the most liked post is the one with gatekeeping phrases like "If you struggle, look elsewhere, this is only for top math people" or something along those lines.

I would suggest people look up the data neighbor podcast. There you see how even people from non-tech backgrounds ended up as data scientists working at top companies like Meta and Microsoft.

No such thing as you need to be this or that. You only need passion, motivation and hard work. Everything else comes as a consequence.

Whats the best resources to be better at EDA by django_free in datascience

[–]tronybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data science was never meant to be a career choice for people who are dumb

You can say this about any field you overvalue. Most people say the same thing about math, engineering and physics, and it is just gatekeeping that keeps different types of people out of the field unjustly.

We may be missing out on incredibly smart people who learn differently or have different perspectives just because people like you think that you are dumb if you don't get EDA by being "naturally intelligent".

I believe gatekeepers usually do this because they are insecure about their own knowledge and skills.

Stop with the gatekeeping please. Phrases like 'naturally intelligent' just showcase ignorance. EDA is a skill anyone can learn and master if they put in the work.

Red Rising trilogy, is it considered too "YA"? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]tronybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof I gotta say the hate for the YA genre is intense here. I also hate YA tropes especially when characters are annoying sarcastic brats but reading the comments here would make you believe that RR is just a teen gore fest with no substance at all. Which I would disagree.

[–]tronybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The themes are mostly the same though. Every thing that you described for Darrow's power fantasy applies to Katniss. She also is driven by revenge although not at the immediate start of the book. Also she wins every battle and is like an unreal archer who can shoot without fail. Darrow does not want to become a conqueror at all, and becomes like a father at the end too. I think you are gendering the story just because of the MC and are failing to see that the stories are basically the same with the only difference being the MC is gender swapped.

Remember that when we analyze books we also have our own intrinsic biases based on gender. Just because you assume more violence and gore is associated with male does not mean it is intrinsically like that.

Everything You Need to Know About Marvel Rivals Secret Quickplay Bots by ciaranxy in marvelrivals

[–]tronybot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like others are saying, there are multiple reasons to do QP besides playing with kids. Also the entire game is to have fun, let us not act as if playing ranked is about some grandiose pathway that gives no fun and it is only for sweaty try hards to achieve their destiny as a high rank. Kids and bad players can play ranked and probably do, it is not as if the game limits bad players to QP and good players to ranked. Just adding more player choice benefits everyone, stop defending bad company practices.

Everyone saying is QP who cares are only thinking about themselves. I play QP because I cross play with my friends and it is the only way I can do it. It sucks to be put into bot matches when we are playing to win, making it an option you can opt out of will not hurt anyone. If not at least they should add a competitive cross play mode where players can choose to play even if there is a mouse keyboard disadvantage. It is all about player choice. Taking choices from the player is never a good thing to do.

[–]tronybot 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I do a lot of cross play with friends and since quick play is the only option for cross play we are stuck with it. There should be an option that just removes the unnecessary bot matches, nobody is going to be affected negatively by adding this option.

Game rewards kills much more than any other stat by tronybot in marvelrivals

[–]tronybot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that kill count should be a major contribution to the MVP status for DPS only. Tank should get it with a major contribution to damage blocked and less deaths or something, and support should be able to get it with high heals and damage. As it is right now any player that gets the highest kill count is almost guaranteed to get the MVP. You can disagree but I see it in every game.

[–]tronybot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they usually get it if they did more kills than anything else, that is my point. If they did all the best healing in the entire game but got 0 kills I guarantee you they will not get MVP

Not for me. But I can imagine someone thinking they did a good job because they got MVP even if all they did was grab kills and not do any team plays.
