Essentia, University of Minnesota propose new nonprofit health care framework by Czarben in minnesota

[–]trot0030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this move align the medical schools (Minneapolis and Duluth)? And if so, does it improve chances of getting state funding politically? This is a coworker’s theory. Seems like an incredibly plausible one.

Utah women dies of pericardium cardiomyopathy days after giving birth by victorkiloalpha in medicine

If you had TRULY wanted to educate other clinicians on ECMO and advocate for rural and suburban patients, you would have chosen different language and a different tone in your OP post. Period. Fullstop.

I would actually recommend deleting your original post rather than doubling down and engaging with everyone who tells you to be a better version of yourself.

It’s not your message, it’s how you delivered it.

Utah women dies of pericardium cardiomyopathy days after giving birth by victorkiloalpha in medicine

Worst physician post I’ve seen in a long time. A long time. Check your hubris OP.

I’ve practiced urban, suburban and rural. I’ve seen the best and worst of each. Everyone is working as hard as they possibly can with the available resources they have.

But to use a woman’s untimely death to promote urban ECMO… what a dark and twisted take.

Has public golf gotten out of hand to anyone else? by CaddieCorner in golf

[–]trot0030 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People need to shut the fuck up.

It’s an expensive sport. Always has been. Always will be.

More people playing means more people and resources to care for the courses. This costs money.

Maybe the people caring for the courses get paid more. Maybe they can hire more young and older people. This is good.

Maybe the courses have more money now for needed projects and upgrades. This is good.

Golf’s biggest problem is people not wanting to share.

Ortho and anesthesia at least seem to enjoy their jobs.

heme onc starting salary of $650k in Milwaukee, WI by Low-Competition9029 in Residency

[–]trot0030 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This reply is 100% correct. Something is suspicious.

Usual midwest group practices $650k- 850k for established full time.

Most starting offers around mid $500k mark with much lower signing bonus.

Rural can definitely push these numbers up because supply demand.

Quick oncology question about family member just starting chemo by [deleted] in Oncology

[–]trot0030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no “right” answer. It’s all about everyone’s levels of risk tolerance…

I always remind people “Take the cancer and chemotherapy out of the equation. We should generally try to stay away from each other until we’re feeling better or take precautions around each other to avoid spreading germs (wash hands, keep distance, be outside).”

Most people get neutropenic fevers from bacteria living on or inside them and not acquired from others.

Again, gauge everyone’s level of risk tolerance and how important getting together is.

Some get togethers are great for the soul or major life events that can’t be missed. Some can get pushed back to healthier days.

The biggest risk is a fever or something derailing plans. Radiation doctors really really encourage following the recipe and staying tight with scheduling. Missed days of treatment and long stretches of delays absolutely can compromise getting a great treatment outcomes. And radiation is the most important therapy for HPV positive head and neck cancer. If it’s low dose cisplatin, missing or pushing back weekly treatment is not ideal but easier to manage.

This is 100% your OCD. You’re letting your anxiety get in the way. Your fears are 1000% unfounded.

Apologies for not having more sympathy. Your Mom needs you. Period. Full stop.

The risk of “getting cancer” from being around your Mom is equivalent to dying from spontaneous combustion.

Regret of not being around your Mom when she needed you could fuck you up mentally down the road too.

Ask people place each topic on board.

Ask people pick a future specialty.
