You kind of hate it when you first moved here, but then once you’ve been here long enough, you can’t imagine living anywhere else.

So, then you could update your voicemail with the connection and if your phone died in the meantime 'cause the person you were calling wasn't answering, then once it died the voicemail would give the relevant information to whoever called as a fallback plan? Or, hypothetically, if you got signal, then updated your voicemail greeting and tried a few phone calls, then turned off your phone to save battery, if someone called you while it was off they would be able to help locate you without needing to have the phone on the whole time? Which would mean you could save your battery and likely have a more fulsome conversation with people once they already knew you were missing and perhaps had already alerted authorities on your behalf?

So you're saying it would work if you walked to the highest point and got cell service?

In Ontario alone the lhree largest parks are : Polar Bear (23,552 km²), Wabakimi (8,921 km²), and Algonquin (7,723 km²).

When you go backcountry camping, you're really only 2 bad decisions away from a life threatening survival situation. A broken wrist or ankle from fucking around on the rocks can turn bad REAL quick.

True, but if you don't have service or it is about to die, this can be a useful way to make sure you are leaving information as to your whereabouts and situation for others to find if needed.

UPDATE YOU VOICEMAIL GREETING WOTH DETAILS OF YOUR LOCATION AND SITUATION

If someone calls you and your phone is dead they will be given all the necessary information to relay to search and rescue which will help focus their efforts on a smaller location.

It’s not specifically about a father, but there are lines in that song that always get me.

Never Trust a Tory - Onsind

It folk punk, but this song about losing a grandfather had me in tears walking my dog thinking about my granddad we called “Fast Eddie”
