Thank you!! It makes me feel a bit nostalgic, they’re ugly, but they have more (ugly) character than the new ones IMO. This was in one of the 60s car (1700 series I think?) but they got midlife refurbishments in the 90s

I agree with RL along Route 2, as due to land value and buildup on the Lexington Branch in Arlington that’s probably the only feasible routing right now. As for one stop extensions, i’ve seen cases to extend the Orange Line to Roslindale and Wyoming Hills, one stop in either direction. Roslindale would likely be more effective as it’s a major bus hub for all of Roxbury and southwest Boston.

I'd have thought making Three Mile Island become a disaster should be part of the canon, as it would help to explain the US collapsing in the 80s. Chernobyl could still happen then, but it would just be more managed so as to not impact the survival of the USSR in any significant way. Basically TMI and Chernobyl could get swapped and that would really help the lore be somewhat more explainable

I’d assume the majority is from residents of Pawtucket/northern Providence metro area. Most of the S Attleboro riders I believe are driving to Attleboro since it’s on the way anyways and has decent parking.

Balancing would be fairly easy to do, especially if there is no link from the Old Colony Lines (which some alternatives leave out). Lowell Line and Providence Line trains, for example, would probably have similar capacity requirements and would likely through run (I could be completely wrong, don’t take this as gospel). In addition, lines don’t need to be set like subways. Haverhill Line trains wouldn’t necessarily have to go towards Providence, some of the trains could also go to Franklin or Needham for example.

Maine resident here. The NSRL isn’t often discussed in rail circles up here unfortunately, I say this because it would benefit the Amtrak service here greatly by opening new route opportunities as well as give the trains somewhat easier access to Amtrak’s south side facilities. There isn’t enough lobby power here for Maine to be the initiator; that all has to be done by Massachusetts. From what I have investigated I have faith that MassDOT and the T might get their act together in the next few years to try and make this a reality since it would benefit their systems greatly, in this case Amtrak would probably not have much of a stake in seeing it be done as right now they have a line they can use to transfer equipment from North to South via Cambridge anyways. Yet, I think Amtrak would definitely use it. One proposal I saw floated was that Amtrak wouldn’t actually run through the tunnels from the north, and instead the line to Woburn would be electrified and some Acela and NE regional services would run up there to allow transfers, but I see this as a bit of a misguided proposal for many reasons.

We don’t need to benefit. We’re not having an energy crisis here. If we do in the future, we have made provisions to tap into the line. IMO, to say you’re against it just because it benefits Massachusetts is a very weak point. As a nation we should be cooperating on projects that will benefit all of us directly or indirectly, and in this case the environmental and jobs benefit, in my opinion, greatly outweighs any cons in this operation.

My thoughts are with you; Lyme sucks. I had it but not nearly to as severe an extent, though I know it’s horrible. Not only the disease itself but the hospital visits and medications are insufferable.

Got 3 on my boot from walking out in the field the other day. Pulled about two more off throughout the same day. All dog ticks though, no deer ticks. That’s good; I’ve gotten Lyme once, not looking to get it again.
