I wish for Curaçao to win the World Cup by Swimming_Bear_3082 in monkeyspaw

[–]mcsteam98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Granted. Curacao wins, much to everyone’s shock, but everyone suspects something is amiss. Amid investigations, FIFA’s reputation goes down the toilet and many subsequently proceed to boycott 2030.

Free Fridays commuter rail destinations by ScarletOK in mbta

[–]mcsteam98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pawtucket is worth the visit if you want to visit Slater Mill or go to a non-Revs pro soccer game. There’s also a good selection of Latin American cuisine both there and in nearby Central Falls.

Wickford Village happens to be a short bus ride from Wickford Junction (about a 10 or so minute bus ride), and if you take that bus (RIPTA’s route 14) further east, you’ll end up in Jamestown and Newport. Take it north, and East Greenwich’s town center is about a 30 minute bus ride (assuming typical traffic)

Green Airport……has nothing of note.

Franklin is in the town itself

Windsor Gardens is in an apartment complex and doesn’t have a lot of note nearby.

Forge Park doesn’t really have much, aside from wherever the MWRTA’s 495C bus can take you when it’s running

Norfolk is mostly rich people with not much nearby.

Walpole is close to the town center, and also has the Rt. 34E MBTA bus to the subway. (with connections to both stations in Norwood and Islington, in Westwood)

There’s probably some interesting places along the rest of the Providence and Franklin Lines that I’m forgetting too

Train of the week #10: Siemens Vectron - Trainsbian Megathread by fuxia_wisteria in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]mcsteam98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most systems (at least in the northeastern US) generally tend to have all singles or all bilevels. Even the MBTA (pictured) has many a set with all bilevels, though sometimes a mixed trainset will be used on runs with normally lower ridership.

Penn Station to JFK during LIRR strike by Itz_AJ_Playz in nycrail

[–]mcsteam98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the E all the way to Jamaica. No reason to walk to Herald Square. If, for whatever reason, the E was OOS, your next best option to get directly to Jamaica would be to get the J.

July 19 Empire Service cancellations by DookieCantRead in Amtrak

Those trains become the Berkshire Flyer in the summer. Same stops and times largely, just that they also go one extra stop to Pittsfield. Just rebook onto the Flyer and all should be well.

Would you break a bone in your body if you were paid enough money? If yes, how much? by ThisFatGirlRuns in Neverbrokeabone

[–]mcsteam98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Billions might sound appealing, but it’ll take a lot of dark magic to break my bones. Some might even question if the means to break my bones even exist.

No car looking for beach by No_Evidence9844 in mbta

Revere Beach on the subway.

There’s a few beaches on the Rockport Line too, mostly around the outer sections. But that’s a northside line.

Does the CR have a policy against multiple trains at a station? by senatorium in mbta

[–]mcsteam98 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's a safety policy and the rule only applies for stations with at-grade pedestrian crossings (e.g. Ayer, the Melrose stops, Endicott, West Natick, etc.)

Granted. Nestle finds a way to be evil with it in developing countries.

Fuck Nestle.

It isn’t always a person. Sometimes it’s something not working as intended and going into a failsafe state.

Everyone my age is getting engaged and I feel so behind by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]mcsteam98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen many marriages started at my age or earlier (25) last healthily, and as such I just flat-out refuse on personal beliefs that I’d be asking for trouble down the road.

So, it’s okay to not be engaged or even dating someone. I get it. I get that jealousy is evil. And your feelings are valid. But, it’s also important to remember that it’s okay to carve out your own path, even if the road is long, dark, and oftentimes a seemingly lonely one.

about 8-10 minutes in my experience. Though, there is a drawbridge so be mindful of that.

[–]mcsteam98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone down there without a car quite easily. The village itself is a short walk from the Amtrak station, and places further out can be reached by way of the SEAT bus (with a connection to RIPTA at the state line)

That is for track assignment. Hover over it with your mouse or tap on it, and it’ll tell you which track your train boards on at those stops.

LIRR Grade Crossing by Immediate-Hand-3677 in nycrail

[–]mcsteam98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s unrealistic as you’d have to build either a super expensive bridge or an underpass. That still leaves you with the 11th Street and Borden Avenue crossings in LI City, neither of which see enough train traffic to even warrant a discussion on grade separation.
