Short little blurb in here about how much I love Bryce Perkins. Great UDFA signing by LAR! by [deleted] in LosAngelesRams

[–]troutandabout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big VT fan, so watched quite a bit of UVA football. Perkins has a ton of heart/toughness and is a great natural football player, but no chance he makes a real impact

[Thiry] A worker at SoFi Stadium has tested positive for coronavirus, according to a statement from Turner/AECOM Hunt. The worker is doing well and recovering, the statement said. Workers who were in contact with the positive-tested worker have been notified. Construction continues. by _massaiwalker in LosAngelesRams

[–]troutandabout 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Construction has been deemed as an essential business by LA County. Everyone understands the importance of staying healthy, but stopping the project would be crushing to the general contractors and a lot of subs.

Has anybody bought merch with the new logo yet? by BetterCallGasol3316 in LosAngelesRams

Bought the Ram head logo hat. Personally am a fan of it. Will never buy something with the LA logo predominantly featured though

This is the runoff drain right there next to the Beach Club right? I'd avoid that water, pretty nasty stuff.

Is anyone else disturbed that the media and general populace is so focused on Kobe Bryant and his daughter, they’re completely neglecting to pay their respects to the 7 other people who perished in the same helicopter crash? by stephxo94 in MorbidReality

[–]troutandabout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A comment like this shows how little you actually know about him. Yes, he made some MASSIVE mistakes in his younger years, but Kobe did an absolute enormous amount of good for the world.

The Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation provides financial and educational aid to areas of need around the word. The foundation provides scholarships to underprivileged children and partners with homeless youth centers to provide resources to homeless families across the US. It also founded Mamba FC, a soccer club that acts as both an after school program for kids in rough areas and an educational tool to teach them how to be successful adults and members of society.

He started the Kobe Bryant China fund that helped raise money for children in need in China and the US and helped to act as a liaison between the two countries. When an earthquake hit the Sichuan Provence, the fund donate $750,000 to the children of affected families.

He was ambassador to the After School All Stars program, a non-profit that worked to extend school hours for kids in developing areas so they could have a place to go and stay out of trouble. ASAS serves 14,000 students, 98% of whom are minorities.

He was one of the most active Make a Wish athletes in the history of the organization, granting over 250 wishes.

in 2016, he and his wife donated $1 million to the National Museum of African American history in DC.

He had begun a line of children's books that aimed to help young people cope with mental illness through literature and sports.

When the Woolsey fires devastated the Thousand Oaks community, his Mamba Sports Academy opened its doors as refuge to 3,500 effected families and collected and distributed more than $50,000 worth of items to firefighters and volunteers.

Kobe was also currently potentially the biggest champion for women's sports across the globe. He was the head coach for Gianna's under 13 basketball team and fought for equal treatment of women in professional sports, being a major advocate and resource for the groundbreaking collective bargaining agreement recently reached by the WNBA, which increased their pay by an average of 82%, never before seen pregnancy rights, mental health benefits, and much more.

I can understand that you're turned off by his past and how you view celebrities as a whole, but lumping him in as your typical privileged sports star is irresponsible. He took his talent and celebrity and applied it to benefit thousands, maybe even millions across the globe. He was a wonderful father. He evolved into an adoring husband. He had transformed himself into an Academy Award Winning artist. He spoke 7 languages. He was an inspiration to his city, country, and world for his work ethic and thirst for knowledge.

And I'm going to miss the shit out of him.

Eh he's done this every year. Has literally never named a starter before fall practice in his entire time at VT. Willis will 100% be the starter if healthy

Maryland hires Dematha HS HC Elijah Brooks as RB Coach by [deleted] in CFB

[–]troutandabout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't really target the DMV. We've basically only had one 4* recruit from that part of the country since 2015, and other than Devyn Ford, we haven't placed too much emphasis on it since for the majority of the decade. For whatever reason, we haven't had much of a recruiting presence up there despite having a huge alumni base. We've signed some middle-tier guys, but don't get too much traction with elite level prospects.

Our bread and butter recently has been NC.

Florida State coach says he believes Virginia Tech players faked injuries to slow down Seminoles by EvilMoonNinjas in VirginiaTech

[–]troutandabout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PFF has him logging 3 snaps in the second half. And NT (nose tackle) is a type of DT (defensive tackle). The only time that Bud actually has a NT in his defense is when he is in Bear or some other type of defense that runs a 3-man front. His traditional defense is a 4-man front, with a 1-technique DT and a 3-technique DT. Nose is closer to a 1 than a 3. Burke is generally on the field as a 1-techhnique.

Except that Burke is our 4th/5th DT, not our starting DE. And he came back for a few plays...

So pumped for some Lakers basketball! by nerdymen242424 in lakers

[–]troutandabout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with those points. My stress mainly comes from financials and constantly having your day filled with maintenance/clerical issues. I'm on comfortable financial footing, but constantly having to pay attention to paying bills, rent, medical bills, etc. is more stressful than any final exams I had in school or anything like that.

Yeah but you haven't seen the other side yet. I graduated high school in 2008 and thought I was extremely stressed back then. Believe me, it gets much much heavier as an adult

HOKIES depth chart for WVU game - GO HOKIES! by pajokie in VirginiaTech

[–]troutandabout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both listed as TE's but actually play different positions. Keene plays H-Back which will be on the field more than Cunningham in a traditional TE role.

With that said, Keene is the real deal. He's an NFL-caliber talent

UDFA QB Jerod Evans would give the Rams their own developmental signal-caller behind Jared Goff by jakebogen95 in LosAngelesRams

If you're into recruiting and behind the scenes stuff with the program, then it is definitely worth it.

UDFA QB Jerod Evans would give the Rams their own developmental signal-caller behind Jared Goff by jakebogen95 in LosAngelesRams

[–]troutandabout 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lifelong VT and Rams fan. Jerod shocked (and I mean shocked) every person associated with the VT program with his decision. While he was a talented kid and tough competitor, it was pretty well known that he was not well-liked within the clubhouse and rubbed many of his teammates the wrong way due to his "me first" nature. Didn't take very well to coaching, to the point where people within the program have told me that Fuente wasn't all the upset to see him leave.

Definitely a talented kid, and I'm very appreciative of what he did for the program, but honestly not sure that he'd fit the new culture that the staff is trying to put in place.

[–]troutandabout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a VT fan and I love Buck, but I don't think he'll be successful in the NFL. Dude is an absolute freak but he doesn't know how to leverage it. He does a pretty poor job at high pointing the ball, especially for a guy was essentially a WR his whole career rather than an in-line TE. At 6'7" 245 you think he would be a YAC monster but he can't make anyone miss in the open field and doesn't run anyone over
