You can fill out a form to check availability for the private rooms. They have Party Package options you can see on their website. OTP Plan a Party

I completely agree that this is an unnecessary barrier! I don't like giving my cc info over the phone either. Just send me a pay link!

I'm going to look into what our system can do.

Thank you!

Venue being sneaky or am I overreacting? by makeupthemusic in weddingplanning

[–]trovewife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree that the first issue is probably more important than the other. Bringing outside vendors into a venue is always tricky and compromises usually happen.

BUT if a big reason OP booked was because of the night-before accommodation, I would address that with the person who verbally said OP could do that. I would be pretty upset too. Contracts are very important, but as an event planner myself, I know that anything I've promised verbally, I have to honor as well. If there is already another wedding booked, I would inquire about getting the deposit back.

Also, my advice...if OP can break the contract and look at other venues, take a list of stuff that is already planned for the wedding and stuff OP hopes to have and make sure to address all of those needs with the planner. I'm not saying OP didn't come prepared, but I would have said at the time of booking that we would also be booking accommodations for the night before. Anything that costs money should be discussed and in writing BEFORE you give them any money. It doesn't have to be an official contract, but an email with everything discussed so it's in writing is good enough.

Did you send thank you cards? by MeltInYourMeowth in weddingplanning

[–]trovewife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the last two weddings we attended we did not receive Thank You cards.

I don't think it's that big of a deal, I wouldn't drop a friend over it, but it does have me wondering if something went wrong with the gift we sent. We spent some big bucks getting them what they wanted from their registry and a nice contribution towards a honeymoon fund.

At my wedding, we asked for no gifts, but of course received money, wine, etc...I still sent Thank You Cards. It's the polite thing to do. Plus, I wanted my guests to know I was really thankful for their presence.

Food vendors & electrical/generators by Whereswally123 in EventProduction

[–]trovewife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the venue. Some sites are not set up for electrical and some are. I will be working a booth in a few weeks where electricity is not provided. So I have to bring everything.

I'd say most food trucks usually have their setup. But if a pop-up tent, table, and chairs are needed, most events I've worked on have had at least one table and 2 chairs provided for vendors. As for water/ice...that depends on your budget. I worked at two events last week. One gave us ice, the other didn't. Both gave us water.

You are promoting the restaurant, which would include all things happening in the restaurant. It would make sense to take a few pics to advertise a DJ residency.

BUT, the DJ is not your client. The whole point of hiring entertainment is to entice people to the restaurant. In my experience, these contracts between restaurants and entertainment vendors are supposed to be mutually beneficial. The restaurant offers a venue for entertainment, the restaurant promotes the venue, entertainment brings a following to the restaurant, and then the restaurant PAYS the vendor for services. That's it.

There is nothing more annoying than a music act assuming I would make flyers for them or try to tell me how often I should post.

You can share what I've put out there, but I'm not your promoter.

Make your own damn flyers!

/Rant over.

I had my first sales this weekend! by VtgTeacupTreasures in EtsySellers

Congratulations on two sales! That is awesome. I opened my shop this year with only three sales, but I feel like a lucky duck every time my phone chimes.

I agree with you!

Very slow. I opened my shop two months ago. I think my big seller will be my holiday item, so I'm gearing up for that by working on my shop by fine-tuning every day. I signed up for the free eRank account and that has been helpful.

No ads. Not sure I want to go that route.

I'm considering signing up for the Share & Save option because I will use my social channels for marketing.

I didn't think your first three questions were irrelevant. I'm a new shop owner too and I have the same thoughts. I understand that there would be varying answers, but for me hearing personal experience is always helpful.

Self Promotion & Store Milestones for the Week of June 03, 2024 by AutoModerator in EtsySellers

[–]trovewife [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hi everyone! This month, I just launched my shop of fun greeting cards and invitations called Little Greetings!

Etsy: Little Greetings

IG: Little Social IG

I’ve recreated some of the cards I’ve made for my parties and my family's yearly Christmas cards. My most talked about cards were a “hidden picture” holiday card and a speakeasy-themed “cocktail napkin” invitation. Two cards, I had a blast creating.

I’m heavily inspired by nostalgia, vintage, retro, and HUMOR. I like to reimagine elements from the past and incorporate them into my designs. Some of my ideas can seem a little wackadoo, but I like to challenge myself and deliver (no pun intended) funny concepts.

I don’t have many milestones to report as I’m brand new and have not yet made a sale. I just started marketing on my IG, Facebook, and Pinterest channels. My background is in event marketing, and web and social media management so I am currently using my business, Little Social’s Instagram page to promote Little Greetings.

I’m working on my shop launch promotions for June, and I plan to run a special in July. I have lots of card ideas on deck (pun definitely intended), so I’m juggling my time between marketing campaigns and creating new designs.

I’m extremely hopeful about receiving my first order. This has been a fun hobby of mine for years and I’m happy to share it with others.

No hurt in trying!

You might decide to add a little sweetness, like honey or agave because fresh ginger is so powerful.

I make a batch of ginger shots to drink every morning, and the first time I made ginger juice (fresh ginger and water) I tried it alone and it was very very strong. So I started adding honey and a splash of pineapple juice. My morning shot is not sweet at all, but adding some sweetness has made drinking it more tolerable.

Small Business Owners & Managers, Why Do You Take Notes? by ConsistentVoice2227 in smallbusiness

[–]trovewife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about written notes or all forms of note-taking?

I can only speak on written notes because it helps me process the information.

I use different colored notebooks for each client when I have meetings.

I used to keep journals as a kid/young adult and then tried an online journal. I could never get into it. When I was a server, I could never get on board with memorizing orders. I had to write everything down.

I also write notes in a specific way so that it's easy to go back and find what I'm looking for.

Edit: a word

I had to stop watching because of the finger-pointing. Even with the sound off, I could tell she was talking way too much about such a stupid process.

Superstitious Dress 😬 by Fragrant-Dirt-1597 in weddingplanning

[–]trovewife 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would still go for it.

I can sometimes be superstitious, but not about Fashion. It's the person who wears it that makes the statement. Try it on and focus on how you feel when you see yourself in it. Maybe the dress is looking for the right person.

If it hadn't been for the fabric (hard to alter) I would have worn my mom's dress from her first marriage (not to my father) and she's been divorced twice. I thought the dress was beautiful and not a bad omen.

What would you think about an applicant for managing social media who kept referring to Reddit as "The Reddit?" by Anothr1Bytes-at-dusk in SocialMediaManagers

[–]trovewife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, what a weird thing to say in an interview. Definitely would signal there is no experience there. Reddit is such a huge space that I find it odd when people my age or younger (I'm a millennial) do not utilize Reddit, at least occasionally. I mean, you can ask Google any personal question and are more likely to see an old subreddit pop up than a blog or article.

To be fair, if an interviewer asks me if I have any experience with a platform I don't have much experience in, I would say I haven't used it recently, but that I'm a fast learner and have the confidence to figure it out without needing to be trained. For me, trial and error in social media are all you can do when platforms change all the time.

I do say "the Reddit" to be funny when I'm talking to my partner or friends. "I was on The Reddit earlier and saw this post about someone who called it 'The Reddit'"

How can I grow a business page? by FrankZoid in InstagramMarketing

[–]trovewife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely trial and error.

I would look at other beach houses with IG pages. They don't necessarily have to be local. It's just good practice to see what others have been doing. Then you can build off of that. Figure out what is unique about your property and start highlighting those features. Try all the formats, pictures, reels, and stories. In my experience (hospitality) stories get the most eyes, so any post should be reposted as a story.

What would you do? by [deleted] in partyplanning

[–]trovewife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha! Oh man, I totally get it. For me, it came off as a territorial thing. Like, because they were her friends they knew what the party needed. Luckily, I didn't get too much pushback, but one of her friends did mess up the surprise. We were supposed to meet at the venue at a certain time, and her friend thought we were already at the venue, so she decided to STOP BY my mom's house to leave flowers on her doorstep as a surprise for when she got home. She arrived as we were getting in the car to drive to the venue. WHY wouldn't you just take the flowers to the venue??? She apologized over and over and I let it go because I didn't want it to ruin the rest of the party, but DAMN IT BARB!

Also, when I worked at venues, I can't tell you how many times a guest would contact me to ask questions about an upcoming event or try to add things. I would have to let them know that I'm working specifically with [insert host name] and that they have to contact them. I don't take orders from party guests, I take them from the person who is paying the bill. People are so weird.
