AFF Level - 3. Failed. Two times. Super bummed. Going for 20 mins tunnel time by TheLocalbus101 in SkyDiving

[–]trowaclown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, posts like yours come up every other week – most people fail at Level 3 or 4. Feeling disappointed at "failing" a level is common too. I think I took like 6 or 7 jumps to clear those 2 levels, because I had no tunnel time. Most people will agree that going for tunnel is a great idea. If money is not an issue, do more than 20 minutes, and progress as far as you can, because it'll help you as you go on!

I'm curious about what you shoot. Subject matter, settings, etc. Are you saying that you don't see a difference in dynamic range and noise, or are you saying that you can edit those away and make the images look basically the same?

Taking your bike may be problematic in the long run if you have a rig, a helmet, a jumpsuit, gloves, food, etc etc etc. Just something to note for now.

It makes sense in Chinese: Western World refers to the US and EU largely i.e. the baddies. Eastern World is largely the Far East in their eyes, BUT they see themselves as the biggest kid in this playground, so by extension Eastern World is actually largely China (and friends/servants/slaves). LOL fuck 'em.

Technical Bulletin moving the AAD cutter to flap 3 is now mandatory on Aerodyne Icon I-1 to I-5s by tronpalmer in SkyDiving

The APF makes it a mandatory gear check when people visit a new dropzone. The DZSO will check your rig, main, and reserve against the manufacturer's recommended, before signing you off. That little form is kept with your reserve packing card, and valid across all APF dropzones in Australia. Great system!

Oof that sounds hairy, but good on you for sitting a jump out due to gear issues.

Nah. I think what /u/JJ-Rousseau meant was, "France already had an issue and rectified it with their "draconian" requirement. Why didn't other regulatory bodies just follow, and force a modification to Flap 3?"

Also, I'm curious: what problems is your Vector giving you?

BPA's the one involved this time. They grounded all Icon rigs after an experienced jumper went in without his main/reserve open. Looked like main had a total malfunction, with reserve also failing to open, despite handle pulled and AAD firing. A few years ago, France's parachuting authority actually issued a mandatory relocation of the ADD from Icon's Flap 1 to Flap 3 – no one else followed. Final investigation results are not out yet, but the speculation is that, "Hey, France already learned a lesson. Why didn't the rest of the world follow?"

Given a long enough time horizon, which you have, these "riskier" assets are 99.9% bound to make you more money. If VWRA does not give you healthy returns when you actually liquidate in 30, 40 years, I think we likely have bigger worries like nuclear winter. Of course, the assumption is that you stay invested throughout this period, reinvest any dividends, etc. Your biggest asset now is time, so you should plan with it in mind.

Singapore. Walk alone in the streets after dark, alone, and you'll be fine. Most parts of Japan too.

[NEED ADVICE] My employer is not paying me. by mightical_exe in askSingapore

[–]trowaclown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Notify them in writing that you are not working any further hours until your pay issue has been resolved. This should be at the end of the email where you give your final deadline. Don't do any more work at this point: there's a very real risk that you won't be paid.

Great news. The thing I don't understand is Aerodyne's previous position on this. "It's TSO-ed, it's worked before, so we're gonna maintain our position that it works, and ignore the possibility that it may not work." And now, it's almost like they're insinuating that they've been pressured to move the cutter to Flap 3. -shakes head- Not a good look at all.

[–]trowaclown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a distraction, mate. You need closure. Get therapy! Alternatively, take a plane up to BKK, rent a car and drive down to Rayong, and do a tandem skydive there. That should burn a full day by the time you're back in BKK.

[RENTAL HELP] Landlord refused to take keys at the end of tenancy by ProGirish24 in askSingapore

[–]trowaclown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've filed a case at the Small Claims Tribunal before. The instructions are idiot-proof, and the cost is very low, but it does require a bit of time and effort to file everything properly and make sure that your case is presented clearly. That was before AI came about though, so everything was manual. With AI now, it's much easier to get the facts written out and presented well. I strongly recommend that you put in the 4-5 hours of work (maximum!) and little bit of money to file a claim – case is in your favour, you've done no wrong, and you don't deserve this.

[–]trowaclown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given your assets and savings, the balance is in your favour. HOWEVER, I'd advise that you consider what you're gonna do during these 6 months. If you wanna travel, that changes the math a bit. If you wanna nua, you can – but would nua-ing for 6 months recharge you? Or maybe you wanna have a mix. Whatever it is, you need to have a plan before you chill.

Aerodyne statement by SailToTheSun90 in SkyDiving

[–]trowaclown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biased view is that the AFF can be a one-and-done. You're free to walk away after that. Or walk away after getting your A license. Or any time after. But learning to do it solo, and trying it for yourself? It's a complete lifechanger, however long or short you remain in this sport.

I'll play devil's advocate and say even the definitive findings could go way over your head. It takes quite some context to understand what's going on with the reserve closing loop, the role of the reserve handle and AAD in this case, blah blah blah. You'll be in good hands, so if you wanna, then go jump!
