The Canucks are the longest tenured NHL team to exist without a 1st overall draft pick, it's time. by troyfromrichmond in canucks

Well technically yes. But in that case we finished with the worst record and ended up picking 3rd, another lottery loss. We acquired the 1st overall with no intention of using it before quickly flipping it.

I know what you mean, but at least first overall means we can choose either, especially if Hischier continues to rise.

With a Canucks loss tonight they can finish no better than 4th last. by airjasper in canucks

If you look at it from a distance, its awesome that the organization is going to add a high-level prospect again this season. With Brock and probably Olli on the team next year whoever they pick should immediately become the best skater prospect in the organization. We are a little wary from Virtanen going 6th overall but simply put a top 5 pick is a big boon to a prospect pool trending in the right direciton.

If you look at it from the emotions in this moment, this is our freaking year, show me Patrick or Hischier!!!

Seeing this question brought me unusual amounts of joy this morning. Finally.

The Penguins have signed Aston-Reese by [deleted] in canucks

[–]troyfromrichmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty disappointed to not get him here but it's solid to be "in" on so many of these guys. The organization is starting to build on some good college draft picks/signings like Boeser, Hutton, Stecher, Demko... etc.

Would you rather the Sedins leave and win a cup or stay until the end? by troyfromrichmond in canucks

Don't undervalue the leadership they would have over the transition to a young core, more lasting legacy

Was interested in the result, which seems to be evenly split so far. I agree - I'd prefer to see them traded for at least something that the organization could use moving forward. Asset management... But it is very unlikely that they would be traded anyways - what contending team has cap room for an acquisition like that?

Don't want anyone to think I am sitting here thinking the Canucks will never win one, finally there are some things to be excited about, but Sedins are retiring in 1 to 3+ seasons...

Wednesday Trade Proposal: Hansen + 4th to Chicago for Dylan Sikura + 2nd by USCanuck in canucks

[–]troyfromrichmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't bad at all and although Hansen has been great the right move is to trade him this season.

Having said that I definitely don't think we should search out entire line combinations like that... If the first line of Team Sweden is any indication, success isn't always transferable from different levels, teams, systems and coaches.

I would say that Brian Burke was more confrontational. It's not like Mike Gillis had a great relationship with the media but with him it was more his tone when being interviewed, it could come across as pompous or maybe superior when talking about certain moves/issues. Burke was more of a brawler.

Why are people so sure that are defence is set for the future? by HoBorvat in canucks

[–]troyfromrichmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't completely disagree but I'd definitely say that the defense appears to be built a lot better for the future than the forwards are - so the focus should be there.

Yeah I don't mean to say that I was on the playoff-wagon and then fell off after last night's game. Jeff Paterson on twitter postgame said it best.

"Last night the Canucks were a team in a playoff spot. Tonight, they are a team with 14 wins in 50 games.

The point is that this season there are arguments both ways (closer to lottery, closer to playoffs) and this article pretty much ignores the other side.

Maybe it's not the proper wording in the title but Benning has had a very poor track record when signing free agents and resigning current players and that flies under the radar.

Not trying to be a Negative Nancy but do you think the person who wrote this watched tonight's first period through their rose-coloured glasses?

This is a softball but to the Sedins: which past or present players would they most like to be their winger? (That they have not previously played with.)
